This team is solid and ready for a mission, so I guess they will head to the ranger ship and see what is listed to do.

I assume you mean the Ranger's Station at your hometown.
The team flies their (Pelican? Pillar of Autumn? what else have you?) to the town. They land in the Ranger's airfield and are greeted eagerly. One of their Ranger acquaintances says, "Very nice! Spiffy new ride! How did you get that?" Others ask what transpired recently.
The collected payment for the Kamirai mission is available. In addition to the gold, a large banner is awaiting. Japanese calligraphy of an incredible beauty is all over it.
The Mission Tags now are:
-T1.4, Sum: Town Needs Summoners! -T2.0, B: Ghost of Kordayr -T1.8, Phys: Boxing Don Needs Wiseguys!
OOG: The Ranger system goes like: Tier [X], where X is 1-6, 1 being Normal, 2 Legendary, 3 Forbidden, etc.; a decimal number, [.Y], which is a range within the Tier category, so 1.0 would be levels 1-5 and level 1.9 would be in the 40-50 range; and a last identifying letter, such as B for balanced, Sum for Summoner, and Phys for Physical.
(Who is the healer?)

This is quite a physically powerful team, I think that the Physical mission would be suiting for them. Also, can Ty recognize any of the calligraphy? He is fluent in Japanese, I'm not sure what Bruce speeks and I'm not sure if Fred knows any of thos languages, so if we can read it, please decipher it for us.

Ty can recognize the calligraphy. It is Kamirai's family and clan symbols making a plus shape with the kanji for "command" and "courage". Bruce speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, English, and a few other languages (you get a lot of languages in Heaven). Fred knows a smattering of a lot of languages, but mostly English.
The mission tag reads, "Bon Duke, a boxing organizer, is testifying to a boxing commission as well as a federal and state grand jury about fixed matches in boxing and his hand in emerging superhuman fighting tournaments of incredible violence. Needless to say, he fears for his life. If you take this mission, you must protect him from whatever assassins make a move, possibly doing preemptive action against those hiring said assassins, and assist him in making the transition to witness protection programs." The pay is actually very high, 10,000 GP.

It figures that the pay would be high for something as unethical as protecting a thug. What are the characters personal feelings about a mission like this? All but Knives and Sephy are pretty prone to want the Justice system to take care of it so they would be willing to protect him even if they didn't think he deserved to live....

Well, you are protecting a thug to allow the prosecution of far worse thugs. Remember that the Rangers try to be politically neutral: they help people pretty much regadless of their personal feelings on the topic.
Knives and Sephy feel that everyone deserves a chance for redemption but are very skeptical about Bon's change of heart. You'll have to wait. You need to meet him ASAP in Las Vegas.

Where are you going to land in Las Vegas? Try to call in to get a private helipad? Get clearance from a public airport?

I'll try to find a private helipad, but if one isn't easy to come by I'll just settle for the public airport.

The Imperium hotel mysteriously grants the team's request to land, despite the obvious military nature of the craft. The Pelican comes in above the great flashing lights of Las Vegas. Fred says, "Existential dread and greed plasted over with flashing lights. The gaudiest is the most evil, almost straight through."
At the helipad is a woman in a coat and suit. Two guards help the team out, and the woman comes up and offers her hand to shake, as the guards (slowly growing in number) start to force the team into the hotel. "Welcome. I'm glad to receive non-governmental support on this investigation. Julia Mackenzie. I'm the ADA covering the trials Mr. King is testifying in. This town has become a lot more dangerous since the Associated Worlds combined."

"That's the point. There are no scandals. We thought it was bad when the Russians, Columbians and Triads were cutting in on the domestic turf. Now we're finding shadowy federal activities that seem to be like the post-WWII deals but on a whole new scale, amoral superbeings are making it a lot easier for the Mob to keep their numbers down and their power up, and the Twanchena groups, mystic guilds... they're all moving in on Las Vegas, to get a cut of the money, the power, the glamour, the influence. Same thing in New York, LA and Chicago. Bon Duke has many faults, but he's of the old school. These guys are of a new cut of cloth. Ah, here we are."
The doors are massive and Victorian, yet again gaudily decorated, so fake in their pretense at historical accuracy. This is apparently an executive suite.
"Hide them in plain sight, is what I thought. Plus hotel security is already deployed in these suites. He'd like to see you."

She slides a keycard through a concealed cardslot close to the door. Inside the room is another scheister and, more centrally, a man in a large hot tub, luckily filled with bubbles and potent aromatic salts. His hair is frizzy, salt-and-pepper, and he smells of bad cologne. "Excellentiriffic! Bon Duke is glad that you have decided to visit." He puffs on a cigar. "Rangers are masteraminous, true heroiffic examples of the human spirit in our modern Earth."

"I am not the professional here. I trust that you will pick the most stupendimunimous alternative to protect me and my body and my interests. There are so many adversarians I face, I know not where danger comes." He wipes his ebon face with a damp cloth.
The defense attorney says, "Stan Mertberg, Mr. Duke's representative. We have a dossier of the groups that Mr. Duke is injuring with his testimony. Other information can be obtained on a 'need-to-know' basis. If you want to get proactive, I have some proposals, provided you sign papers denying me or Mr. Duke any legal liability."

I'm going to look at the DA inquisitively and ask "Are we allowed to take preemptive action against these possible threats?"
I'm going to have Sephy tell the Pelican Pilot to get a Warthog with an anti-aircraft gun on the helipad and get some helljumpers to post on the inside of the hotel room to boost the security.
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Nov 30, 2005 1:11:10 GMT -5
The DA shrugs, saying, "You are Rangers. You have a reasonable degree of legal immunity from our prosecution. Don't push it, though." What'll the Warthog do if it gets stranded? Jump off the building? As the Pelican comes back into land, containing the Warthog and Helljumpers, a fervent radio transmission comes in. "Mayday! Mayday! We're going down!"

...It's the Pelican.

OOC: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, sorry, I thought that you meant the pilot heard it on the radio... I was expecting that somebody wanted to "crash land" on the hotel helipad to get in close
IC: The helljumpers are going to use their newly aquired jetpacks and bail out the back of the Pelican... I assume this to be their natural reaction anyways and everybody but Bruce Lee Il Duce and Aeris is going to run out to the Helipad hoping to help in any way that they can.
|
|

The Pelican is thrown through the bottom floors of the hotel by a shadowy figure... moving at incredible speeds. Suddenly, ice shards rocketing at close to sonic speed fly at the people at those out on the helipad.
A knock comes at the door. "Helljumper reporting for duty!"
|
|
|
Post by Ominai on Nov 30, 2005 1:36:43 GMT -5
Il Duce will draw his guns and Bruce is going to stand by the side of the door and Aeris will open the door after casting Barrier on herself.
Vash and Knives are going to use their high agility to attempt to dodge the ice. Ty will project an energy shield around himself and the others and Fred will add to that as Sephy attempts to locate the threat.

|
|

When Aeris opens the door, she faces a powerful handgun held by someone in Helljumper armor. She has only a moment to respond before a full clip discharge.
Vash fails to dodge, but he fires his Angel Arms through the shards. He can tell he registered a glancing blow. Knives does in fact dodge. Tyler creates a field that survives, but Fred is caught and cut badly. The target is rapidly closing in and is going to land on the helipad.

Aeris will cast Mini as quickly as possible (preferably on the gun if possible?)
Sephy is going to cast Fire 3 on whatever target is coming to the pad.
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Nov 30, 2005 1:49:52 GMT -5
Aeris is caught by the rounds anyways, though she does shrink the man and the gun. Though one cannot tell under the armor, he does not seem phased.
Sephy chose the right element, as this enemy is obviously ice-based... yet he powers through the Fire 3, continuing to move at just under the speed of sound, his fist millimeters away from Sephiroth before Sephy gets a response.
Il Duce and Bruce?
And Fred, Ty, Knives, Vash, and others' actual turns?
|
|
|
Post by Ominai on Nov 30, 2005 1:52:15 GMT -5
Bruce is going to all-out powe knee the shrunken man in the neck. Il Duce is going to cast Cure on Aeris if she took any damage, if not he is going to begin blessing the room and praying for protection (since he's using his priest job).
|
|
|
Post by Ominai on Nov 30, 2005 1:53:51 GMT -5
Vash and Knives are going to Angel Arms right in front of Sephy to try to hit the asshole, Fred and Ty are going to sync energy allignments and Ty will be the conductor to let Fred do what he will with the power.
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Nov 30, 2005 2:17:32 GMT -5
The shrunken man amazingly enough blocks with his guns. Aeris' barrier took the damage, so Il Duce blesses and protects the room. The man advances towards Bon Duke.
The man is now revealed to be probably 8 feet tall, simply linebacker-built. He throws up ice shields and leaps high into the air. Suddenly, an explosion occurs, and drill-like shrapnel flies everywhere. Fred and Ty's shield protects them... but each drill bit explodes. The helipad is revealed to be heavily armored. Fred launches Prismatic Flame at the iceman and amazingly misses. The Angel Arms fly into the sky and form a new light that the Vegasans can see even through the flashing bawdiness.
