"We've got our mission and our heading! Let us be off!" Brian flips down the true sight lenses on his spectacles.
If she's hiding from something, I'm sure I'll be able to see it with THESE
"We can't be sure if she be safe, so we don' have time to wait for reinforcements. Besides, there be a damsel in distress! The path is clear." Brian will hustle off in that direction, axe and shield at the ready. He'll assume that his comrades are thinking along the same line as he tears through the forest at dwarven speed.

Brian sees no invisible attackers between here and there, nor anything really poised to strike. Maybe the obvious damage done to the plant monster other creatures off. Before they head out, there's too much stuff in the way, but Brian's true sight, Fred's fourth dimensional senses and psionics, Mario's sixth sense and Black's Zanshin all combine to make it so they are very unlikely to be caught unawares by wards or traps or cohorts of the threat attacking the woman. This means they are very likely to get a surprise round.
When the guys get close, they find that there's a ridge that is overgrown with all sorts of roots, vines and grasses. They are able to hide fairly effectively, as they see what appear to be strange, somewhat mechanized bluish-zombie things (blue as in flesh that has lost its oxygen, not like a Zentraedi) shambling and stumbling, clearly looking for someone. Fred can tell that the woman is right below them. Brian can see a sort of astral projection, something like a commanding presence. It may be possible to attack this projection, but it seems heavily guarded and only tenuously here in the first place.
"I grow tired of this game", the voice says, before the group can really get going to do something. "I'll blast this cliff off if I have to find you!" The voice is female, raspy and deep, and extremely irritated.
At this point, a massive white armor appears. Crackling energy appears all over it. Mario and Fred instantly recognize Alexander, the Holy Eidolon, the Iron Colossus.
The woman's projection then disappears. It seems that she views it as very unlikely that this woman will survive much longer.
Because the enemy who has summoned Alexander doesn't seem to be aware of the guys, so focused is she on mitigating the danger of projecting her consciousness and finding her quarry, the team has a full surprise action.
Fred once again casts Stonebiter on Black, hoping that the massive damage to Alexander's armor might disrupt its charge. He would do Rose Bit Hurricane, but has insufficient TP; instead, he uses Annihilate, hoping that the (much reduced) MagiTek version of the spell will still work to destroy one of the apparent nodes of holy activity. The spell instead seems to almost fizzle upon the thick armor and mystical defense of Alexander. When the dust clears from the explosion, there are barely even scuff marks.

Brian relays what he's seen of the astral projection to the team, "Looks t' me like the summoner was immaterial! Be wary of it, lads!"
Brian then uses his temporary enchantment ability to enchant everyone's main weapon with the 'Pierce' enchantment, granting large bonuses to armor penetration.
"By Moradin's beard y' shall not lay one finger on that woman! My axe'll see to that, y' undead filth!"

The zombies don't seem to like that very much, grumbling and growling, but it appears that they are too preoccupied with their orders to find the woman to turn and fight.
OOG: I'll also note that either Mario or Black could have prepared a scene power for combat since we had every expectation of combat.

Mario will activate battle meditation as his scene power since they were expecting a fight. For his surprise action Mario will slash at Alexander using Rend Magic in an overhead form V style strike to the arm with his lightsaber. "It pains me to strike against a fellow knight so I shall try to make this as quick as possible."

OOG: What is the current Battle Meditation bonus so I can take it into account for roles? Also, I assume you're doing Rend Magic, e.g. attack MP, rather than Rend Mind, e.g. attack the Magic stat (or Intelligence or whatever he's using). I'll note that Mario knows that, as a summon, his MP is pretty big. If you meant Rend Mind, I'll change it.
Alexander doesn't seem to reply, instead attempting to create a shield in front of Mario since the Rend Magic could be harmful to him. But Mario easily gets over it, striking and obliterating what he believes to be a fairly large amount of magic. He finds, in fact, that he struck so well that he releases a torrent of energy which refills 15 TP each for Mario, Brian, Black and Fred! Fred gets an additional 3 from his Automaton also absorbing it.

"It would appear that minor clean up as been left to me" Black will remark dashing forward with his hand upon Namakura's hilt and once in sufficient range of the zombies strike out in a single deadly slash of blinding speed!
His hope here is that zanmato will cut down the lot of the undead in one quick slash that will sooner ensure the woman's safety.

OOG: Remember that Fred cast Stonebiter on you so you can get a slash on Alexander. If you hit the zombies, you waste valuable Stonebiter hits. You can go ahead anyways, but remember that Alexander seems to be in the midst of charging an attack. Black can tell that the zombies can't get her until the mountain has been blasted out.

OOG: right now battle meditation gives +2 to attacks, defenses, saves, and recovers 15 hp a round. Also I was meaning to make it loose mp hoping that the cleave off the durandal emitter would lower its mp by a percent although I guess I should have mentioned that.

OOG: THAT makes more sense. Then it does lose a proportion of HP, about 30% of it plus an additional large flat amount you would guess.
Edit: OOG: Mario, does Zanmato work like Draw Out in that he can finish up the turn with slashes afterwards, or does it take all of them? I have been corrected as to Zanmato.
Black slashes the entire field. The zombies are all split apart. Even those few that save against the Zanmato are ripped apart by the enchantment from Brian and Fred.
However, even with the grievous damage, Black sees that the mechanical parts seem to be growing new flesh, and the zombies seems to be rising back up. It is very, very slow, but if Alexander heals them, it is likely they will return.
As for Alexander, Black's slash is devastating. He strikes across the main body, the horrible sound of metal screeching and a flash of light emerging. Alexander triggers a large flash of light, though, and the zombies start to get back to their feet very slowly. It appears that for certain triggers, maybe after being hit for a certain amount of damage or a possibility upon being struck, Alexander releases a healing wave. Nonetheless, Black can tell that the Stonebiter blow reduced Alexander's armor substantially and will make it easier to harm it.
Alexander keeps charging, though it appears that it has only charged enough for one turn. But it also manifests pulls out its arms from its side, revealing them from armored portals, and inflicts a colossal uppercut on Mario. Mario's armor soaks the punch damage itself. Mario is thrown into the air, where he is struck by gleaming winged missiles for 1832 damage. He has been inflicted with a Staggered debuff: He takes 20% more damage, his armor and other invulnerable soaks go down by a die, and he has a -15 to strike, parry, dodge and damage rolls. For the next turn, he will be in mid-air, unable to assist though Battle Meditation still works as might something like calling out to warn someone or something like that. Whatever Aura he is using also still applies.
The zombies are almost to their feet.

Whose turn is it? Ours again?
Mario, keep in mind the Major Rejuvenation Potions I made for everyone. 100% HP, 50 TP, and cures all status ailments. Now could be a good time for it.

It is ours again. Technically, the order is:
Alexander Fred [because Fred has a level of initiative priority due to 4-D Transformation] Black Mario Zombies [who aren't going yet but just bear in mind] Brian
Mario could take a potion for himself now.
Fred's Automaton uses Lifeblast on Mario. He heals 327 HP and gives Mario a +7 to initiative, combat rolls, saving throws and a bonus melee action. Fred then casts Null Sphere to protect everyone.

OOG: never really figured thought about it but I guess it would give him an extra double attack to alexander. Does lifeblast mean I get an attack or am I still neutralized due to the uppercut.
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Dec 3, 2011 1:35:50 GMT -5
OOG: Unfortunately, Lifeblast doesn't usually purge stuns and stuff, and even if it did, you can't really act because of knockup more than stun. It's less that you're actually stunned and more that you're out of position, not able to control your trajectory, etc. It's like knockup. However, Mario can probably do some things that don't require any physical maneuvering and where targeting is relatively forgiving.
The additional blows by Black [assuming Black takes them, which he indicated he would] reduces Alexander's armor to 42.1875%! The armor plating is not healed by Alexander's healing pulse, as noted above. The additional hits also do substantial damage.
Brian and Black both deduce that to destroy the zombies permanently requires either utter obliteration or, failing that, reducing them to enough pieces that the total cellular damage is too great. It might also have to do with rending the mechanical parts. Mario's lightsaber may be up to the task, some of Black's Draw Outs followed by a blow may cut them up enough to effectively if not utterly neutralize them as might Black's explosive or flame-based techniques from Shishio, Annihilate should be just the ticket and Brian may be able to use extremely corrosive acids or toxins that will harm their undead body.

"It seems that clean-up is more trouble than it is worth" Black comments with irritation as he turns his attention towards Alexander.
With a stern glare Black initiates gasoline candle and with his katana in hand moves to strike at Alexander. Focusing his chi energy he attempts to strike a chi deathblow against the armored giant in addition to the fiery fury of gasoline candle.

OOG: How much health is Gasoline Candle currently consuming? Also, I believe that Chi M.D. Death Blow can be used in a flurry of attacks, so I will assume that is the case until Mario says otherwise.
Fred says, "I think with AoEs we can keep them down".
Black moves in to strike. Alexander seems to be getting the hang of Black's attack pattern, however, and blocks with a large blade of its own, suddenly formed in mid-air. The sheer force of the titan hurls Black into the mountain behind him. Black fails both of his soak checks, but does manage to mitigate the impact by half. Further, much of the force has to be absorbed by the Null Sphere, which is at 77% of its maximum. This means Black takes only 189 damage. Unfortunately, his attack did fail.
Mario could probably Force Heal, but he may not get Black since Black may be slightly outside of the range.

OOG: Chi mega damage death blow can be used with an attack flurry.
Mario will think to himself that he should stay on healing or buffing duty till he hits the ground and spends his turn using cura on himself since he doesn't want to waste healing that might miss.

Mario heals 888 HP.

Brian will raise his mighty axe into the air and charge towards the mecha zombies! "You shall perish under the power of my steel!" Brian then uses Temporary Enchantment: Holy on his axe. If Brian has any turn left, he'll swing at one of the regenerating zombies.

Brian charges down. The reforming zombies are starting to come together, but are helpless enough that they cannot stop Brian from killing them. Alexander offhandedly tries to protect them with a wall, but Brian gets around in time and smashes one of them. It appears that things near Alexander have a higher holy resistance, pointing to an aura, but Brian's strike is true and he destroys two zombies which are close to each other in one blow, leaving six behind.
Alexander bellows out, great steam clouds from all over it filling the air, "Unus". This seems to point to its next attack being its charged holy beam, likely its signature Divine Judgment. In the interim, it emits a shield. The shield, Perfect Defense, will make the zombies invulnerable unless someone stops it. It also seems to have put a large shield around Alexander as a separate consequence of the spell, which is not invulnerable but very powerful.
Fred attempts Negate Magic, putting him at 1 TP even with his reduced cost from his consecutive casting reduction and yet fails to stop the spell. He only prevents two zombies from being made invulnerable.
Other reactions? Alexander is likely immune to silence but it is possible that a Rend Magic or Rend Mind could stop the attack in its tracks; Mario has landed now and can react normally. Brian reasons that there may be a way of reversing the spell somehow.

OOG: Simple. You do your investigation part, then you do other stuff.
Brian is able to get one. Absolute Defense seems to be an individual buff that is applied in an area, and thus Brian reflects it onto Black.
Black realizes that his reflect draw out will work.

OOG: BOOOOOOO! LAAAAAAMMME!
IG: Seeing his dwarven comrades actions Black quickly sheaths his first blade and now takes up Sword Saint Legacy. Speaking to the soul of the blade he asks of it the power of an area of effect reflect hoping th turn the rest of the undead into metaphorical mirrors.

OOG: Huuuuuuuuh?
IG: Black succeeds at doing so, causing the rest of the Absolute Defense to be reflected upon the team. It appears that the duration is proportional to the remaining MP after casting, which means it will last two turns. The effect seems to be near invulnerability to most types of damage and status effects. Fred's Automaton, Mario, Black and Brian are all invulnerable.
Fred and Black go now.
Prior, Fred was going to save some energy by using items instead of casting, but now he wants to burn through spells as fast as he can before the invulnerability wears off. He decides to attempt Dispel Magic Barrier to eliminate the shield on Alexander, hoping that next turn he can help Black finish it with Stonebiter or use another stronger spell. Fred just barely beats Alexander's resistance and eliminates the barrier. He considers turning his Earth Thunder into an idol but does not do so, instead having it use Annihilate on a nearby zombie, hoping to simultaneously obliterate the zombie totally and harm Alexander with some AoE. He does, but the combination of a relatively poorly placed shot and the MagiTek seeming to be a little fatigued reducing its damage causes the zombie to be blown up but Alexander to take only about 200 damage.
Black.
The zombies have regenerated enough that they will be able at least to move on their turn, though they will not be able to attack.

OOG: I don't know if you were still wondering but Gasoline Candle is supposed to take 10% of my health per turn at this point.
IG: Alexanders spell having been turned away from its cohorts Black now turns his attention upon Alexander once again. His eyes narrow as he takes Sword Saint Legacy in hand as well as summoning up his energy for another attempt at a chi enhanced deathblow. Rushing forward he strikes out at the enemy in hopes of striking the critical blow he sought earlier!

Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Dec 7, 2011 23:23:49 GMT -5
OOG: I am indeed still wondering. However, while you are under Absolute Defense, damage from Gasoline Candle doesn't affect you, so you're good for now. Since you've had two turns of action before this round, the surprise round and the first round, that's 20% of your HP plus the 189 damage. EDIT: Black had not activated it prior so he actually has taken only 189.
Alexander this time seeks to more move Black, hoping that the power can overcome the invulnerability, with something like a tractor field. Black is slowed down, but nowhere near enough to prevent him from striking with his flurry [assuming you are indeed doing the flurry]. The Death Blow seems to strike true, though there is a loud tink sound that seems to point to Black having almost failed to pierce the invulnerable armor (the armor's sagging condition just barely not up to the task of repelling the first and sixth initial blow). All of the blows do grievous damage, and although the Pierce and Stonebiter enchantments have been consumed, Black is still piercing through much reduced armor. Chunks of armor fly off, and though they seem to be replaced instantly by gleaming light, everyone can tell that Alexander is massively damaged.
The zombies close in around Black, unable to do anything yet but boxing him in. However, with only five zombies left to hem him in, they form a circle that is far from impenetrable.
Mario and Brian.

"My axe will drink your undead ichor, filth!" Brian will bellow as he swings his axe at the nearest zombie.
There is no way my axe can slip passed that Eidolon's armor. Besides, there's nothing quite like reaping my vengeance upon the undead for the WHOLESALE SLAUGHTER OF MY CLAN!
Brian's anger, reaching a boiling point, has him accidentally let loose the last few words of his inner monologue. He doesn't seem to notice, as he slips into the dance of the slaughter.
