The residents of Northern California awoke with a stir: A thousand foot wall of water that erupted from Tahoe and swept away buildings and people.
Last we left our heroes [Della, Cassidy, Cory, Mario, Fred and Black], they were going to San Francisco to seek out a vestige of civilization. After defeating a Wendigo and killing some slavers, the team has finally acquired a token ability to defend themselves. But the journey is long and dangerous...
Taking what remains of the old highway, the group gets closer to the destroyed and flattened foothills. But as they drive past Washington, they are amazed to see smoke in the distance!

Pull the truck to a stop at vista point.
get out of the truck and look while drinking some water.
"damn"
try to figure out where it is coming from, and where it started and so forth.
Run over to the bushes and take a pee, cause knowing my small bladder I have to go all ready.

Nothing threatens to bite off Cory's penis in the brief period where he is peeing near Vista Point.
The smoke seems to be coming from Washington directly, though Cory can't necessarily be sure at this distance. It doesn't seem to be spreading - it seems like maybe a large sized village bonfire.

pull one of the quads off the trailer start it up and head on down to see what is going on. I am going to bring my two guns, 2 gallons of gas, a day worth of food, water, my knife, ammunition, a bed roll and a gallon of water.
"hey you guys I am going down to Washington, I hope to be back in a few hours. I will meet up with you guys in gv/nc when I can. We should meet up at Freds place if we can."
Head on down the road to Washington.

Elsewhere, Joseph will walk back down to the first floor. "Careful, he's hurt, might be a little crazy" he tells his dad. keeping his .22 pistol hidden, he walks down into the basement.

Fred says, "My place was....." He struggles through this part. "Flattened, remember? By the foothills altering? We need to stick together. Go scout, we'll stay here."
As Cory drives down, off to the side of the road he sees a body. From this distance, it looks like something ripped off its head.
Meanwhile... Joe had grabbed onto what he believed was the farmer, based on the clothes, yet the body's texture is bizarre, sunken and pitted. Ramming the farmer to a wall, all he hears is a moan. The fingers around his throat are sharp and bony, and he feels a cut.
Suddenly, Joe sees rotten flesh and coagulated blood splatter over a wall. The pressure eases up on him. He recognizes the sound of his fathers' gun.

"Ok"
Stop and pull out the 8mm and look around. Then walk slowly towards the body. checking my left and right. Listing for any noises.

Nothing seems to accost you as you approach the body. No suspicious sounds are heard, though admittedly Cory is not the best at distinguishing an oncoming assassin from a deer walking by. When he gets closer, he sees that the body has been decapitated entirely. The wounds at the neck are jagged, as if something bit its head off. Cory thinks that the body is holding something, and covering something else...

kneel down and check out the body. Flip it over if i have to.

When you flip it over, you see that there's a piece of paper in the hand. Rigor mortis has set in, so the body must have been here for some time. You manage to pry the piece of paper out. It's covered in blood, and was scrawled quickly in panic, but what remains legible is "Be care ---- illusion --- town is --- ead". More usefully, under the body is a whitish spear with a sort of hooked end. Sutras cover it, and it appears to be made out of an alloyed silver. A strange language that Cory can recognize as Sanskrit thanks to the limited Mechano-Link he develops with the item is inscribed over the blade. Upon closer inspection, the symbols seem to repeat a lot, as if the format were very cyclical or repetitious. He may want to bring it back to the team for identification. The head is nowhere to be found. Blood is dried and caked on the ground around the man, but it doesn't seem nearly enough given how much blood he must have lost. ( www.terraearth.com/terranigma/art/te_art_10.jpg is a good model for the spear.)

OOC about time you got to this
grab the spear and get back on the quad. Keep heading down to the town, I just want to get a look at it.

OOG: Had to plan out what exactly you found.
Getting closer to the town, you see the closest thing to normalcy you've seen for awhile. They've erected primitive wooden fortifications around important parts and you see guys in crude militia uniforms, but aside from that it seems like Washington managed to get through the apocalypse relatively unharmed.
Given how quiet the area is, the quad does make some deal of sound. One of the militia guards seems to be getting curious.

thinking back to the note on the dead body turn around and head back up the road. Quietly at first then when I think I am out of ear shot burn rubber as fast as possible.

As noted last night: Cory and Fred discovered that Washington had transformed into a city of the dead! Flying horned faces, zombie girls with heads that can separate from the body...
As Fred and Cory drive away, firing an SMG and a rifle, burrowing spike creatures appear in front of the quads. This is a problem, as they will have to maneuver around - they are forming a pincer attack.

The problem is that I believe there's only two exits out of Washington and going back the way you went means heading back into zombies and fire.

ok here is a option. Have Fred jump on to the back of my quad, sitting backwards that way he can shoot and I can drive. I mean ether(SP) way we can make it work.

That's fairly crowded, and if you fail any piloting check there is a more than average chance Fred will fall off. The other problem is that that requires stopping when you have faces chasing you and spine mole things intercepting you.

what about my mechno link, would that help me with the driving or is the only power for that is information about the current item. We can't out run them, cause they fly. We can't shoot them good enough to keep them off of us. How about we wait till they get close then we spear them?

Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Feb 2, 2009 20:56:33 GMT -5
No, Mechano-Link does allow you to link up with machines (particularly modern ones) and does indeed give you MASSIVE bonuses to piloting. Fred can fly and try to carry you, but he doesn't know if he can outpace them. He DOES beat them in altitude, though, so he could try to rapidly gain then drop to lose them. Initially, though, you need to deal with getting around the spiny things.

In the mean time, Joseph Takes and axe and the pistol, waits for his Dad to wake up so he could use the car, and drive back to the farm to explore more thoroughly.

As Joe drives, his new, enhanced Eldar senses let him see about a mile ahead of time that the main path to the farm they used last time heading through the small grove of trees still has zombies. Apparently, the damnable things think that they'll be able to get food in that area now.

I'll get out and fight them if there is less then 5, if more, I'll get out of the car and go around them.

Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Feb 9, 2009 23:07:49 GMT -5
You can't exactly estimate at this distance, but it's more than 5. The problem is that going around them is somewhat offroad at this point. The truck may be a piece of garbage that can't handle it, or it could be an offroad beast.

that's why I said I'd get out, way to risky at this point to possibly loose the car

All right. Traveling on foot is definitely dangerous, but Joe knows the risks.
As Joe walks into the woods, through a dense clump of trees he sees white metal. Though it's difficult to tell, he'd gauge with his newly enhanced senses that it's probably 8 feet tall and about 12 feet long. [FN: 300].

Joseph will inch closer, take cover from tree to tree, trying to get a closer look.

As he gets closer, he swears he sees a van, with just a few minor dents and a tire that needs to be replaced, nestled between two trees. It carries behind it a strange trailer unit, part of which appears to open up.
