I will strike at the back of the head/neck area of the snail with the stick trying to disorientate it.

The creature's anatomy is different enough that it doesn't have much of a centralized brain. Quinn lays down blows but is not successful.
Now the shell is glowing red hot...

I will use Runic to absorb it next attack.

The flame erupts into the air! Quinn holds up his stick, evidently functioning just enough as a sword to allow him to absorb the mystical power. The thing immediately withdraws into its shell, gathering more heat...

Since it seems crazy to run into a shell that was glowing red hot to attack a giant fire breathing snail and I assume it would use any attacks against it as energy for its next attack like Whelk I will wait until it emerges from its shell and then attack his head again.
OOG: Am I able to cast magic or do I only have the stats at this moment since I have no formal training on Magic?

OOG: You have all of the abilities from your sheet at the moment, thanks to Minerva. Thus, you have Ice.

If that the case then I will use Ice when it emerges again.

Minerva says, The creature is vulnerable to an ice attack as the heat builds but before it leaves the shell...

I will follow her advise then and cast Ice at the Giant Snail.

The ice causes an explosion with the heat building. Smallish cracks appear in the shell. It pops its head back out, unable to charge, losing an action. Quinn can act again.

I guess seeing the cracks forming in its shell I will hit them with the branch and try to make them bigger

Quinn smacks the shell nice and good. A piece comes off, then you smack more and more. Blood shoots from the snail.
The snail takes some heat and fires shell fragments into Quinn directly. Quinn is hurt, blood dripping down his face. Your turn again.

I guess I will hit it a couple more times before I jump off to find some better ground.

You finally crush its throat. It gurgles horribly as it falls over. Its mouth loosens on the crate.

I hit it a couple more times to make sure its not faking and then I will try to open the crate.

The hits strike and the body's muscles resist, but not strongly. The monster is dead.
How will you open the crate?

Nudge the lid open with the stick or use leverage with the stick if possible.

When Quinn pops open the lid, he finds a veritable treasure trove of US military issue items. There are two M-16A2s (old style but still functioning, one fitted with an AN-PVS night scope and another fitted with a small under-barrel grenade launcher), two sets of Marine issue camouflage (one designed for arctic weather, one for jungle and desert combat, the former clearly quite warm), two M40 Field Protective Masks, two sets of Marine rations (including some Kool-Aid and supplies for cleaning and filtering water), a small sleeping bag, four space blankets, a first-aid kit, a powerful flashlight, signal flares, a small radio, pre-paid cellphone, signal whistle, compass, a GPS locator and a map unit, star charts and other navigation aids, and a blade wrapped reverently in cloth.
Upon unfurling the crimson silk that ensconces the blade, Quinn finds that he is staring at a blade with designs not of this world. The steel resembles Damascus steel, swirls and bands running through the grain of the metal. But Quinn can tell that it is heavily alloyed with a silver-like material, seemingly not of this world. The resplendent steel thus seems to curve downwards to black. The crossguard contains two small, triangular protrusions on the side, sharper than they appear, apparently designed to capture enemy weapons.
"Iadel, Abyss Horror. The orcs came, and brought fear and hatred. So too did the servants of the Necromancer, and Morgoth. Gnashing teeth and clashing metal struck fear into the hearts of the fair folk of Middle Earth. Forged in the fires of the Beleriand, Iadel brings darkness and fear to those who spread it."

"did my sword just talk to me?" I wonder aloud if I'm not merely going insane or I am in a Coma just dreaming all of this.
When Quinn regains his sense he will get dressed in the forest camo and Square all of the equipment away so that weight is evenly distributed around his body.

Quinn realizes that the information was actually insignia in the air, produced by the dying heat of the monster.
By the time Quinn fits himself and gets prepared, it is fully dark. A backpack and some satchels at the very bottom of the crate containing four grenades lets him carry all of this material. He handles the weight very well, realizing that he has acquired superhuman hardiness.
Quinn manages, by walking for another hour, to find his way back to his Dads' campsite. His father's mixture of panic, relief, sadness and fury is at once tragic and comical. "Dammit, Quinn, we were about to make a search party!" After seeing the injuries Quinn sustained from battle and that his gear is sopping wet, your father begins to help clean and bandage you, realizing that something quite serious is happening.

OOG: Insignia ?
"heh, umm, Dad I think this will be a little hard to explain and you probably wouldn't believe me normally but..." Quinn will then explain to his Father including showing him the Items and such

OOG: You know, written letters. It was initially Elvish but then translated.
Quinn's father is understandably in shock. He remains quiet for awhile, absorbing it all, his normal friendly disposition now quite underrepresented.

"better call off the search party" I will say jokingly
"I think its best if no one besides us knows about that lab. I don't really see anyone using it for good if its revealed" I will say solemnly after thinking silently about what we should do now with the rather unexpected turn of events

Your dad laughs at that one, returning to some of his good spirits. He nods and says, "Son, you probably shouldn't tell that to anyone..."
Five years pass by.
OOG: What did you want to be doing when you return to the present timeline? I was thinking part of a special group of military Kin, Valor.

OOG: Valor is a loosely associated group of military Kin that's managed to carve itself out a separate little area and endowment within an intergovernmental department. There's Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Mossad, CIA, FBI, NSC, CSS, NCIS, MI6, etc. They try to counter all the conspiracies, assassins and nasty groups emerging in the government as well as new terrorist, pirate, and similar groups.
