Xexilia could indeed get her eyes unsewn or could get cybernetic replacements or any number of optical alternatives. But as long as she is blind, and possibly past it, there are rare trainers, classes and sensory abilities developed by the disabled across the universe to more than compensate for their disability.

Ah! Awesome! Although getting them unsewn would be a little bit creepy, and cybernetic replacements instantly makes me think Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Eheh...Yaye!

You can also think Shadowrun, any other cyberpunk continuity, Rifts... And it would make sense given her fear of mutilation. Anyhoo: Any ideas?

Well, I lost myself on Shadowrun! I'm rather scary and tend to like mutilating characters. As long as there's some way the cybernetics would still handicap full-on sight, such as limiting her to certain perspectives and things, then I'm all for most everything, really.

Yes, but IC I see no reason she'd pass up some kind of cybernetics, though she probably would have to go through an arduous quest to get back the full use of her eyes, not just cybernetics. Anyways, this is a quest also for things to replace sight.

Okay, so it's getting her eyes unsewn and discovering cybernetics or something better than that?

Well, something different. There are any numbers of artifacts, ancient arts, etc. to deal with sensory deprivation or blindness that Xexilia could explore.

Some type of artifact! Or...maybe a type of parasite that could provide some type of benefits? Now I'm just thinking of Minority Report!

Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Mar 7, 2006 21:40:28 GMT -5
So what's her strategy for finding such an artifact, parasite, etc.?

|
|
Post by sithofmacabre on Mar 7, 2006 21:46:55 GMT -5
She could be looking for the artifact, hearing about it from someone and then setting out immediately for it; but instead discovers the parasite...somehow--maybe in the process of discovering the ancient item. And perhaps the parasite itself is the artifact.

That is all certainly possible, I'm just asking where she'd begin. If you want to start with the basics, the team has libraries and experts of any number of ilks.

Let's bother an expert!

The team's main archaeologists are Amdalus (NPC) and Rakasia (PC, DemLink plays him). Archeus (cerpin) is the team's general scientist and Ikiru (though now much harder to reach, that's halfhero) the team's general lore expert.

Xexilia would want to see if there could be any possible history to the places she searches, or if there would be a possibility of traps to get there, so how about Amdalus?

Amdalus is currently out in the team garden. He is wearing a full bodysuit and clipping away. He seems preternaturally absorbed.

She approaches Amdalus slowly, not really wanting to disturb his work. After a moment watching him, she speaks a bit quietly, "Excuse me, sir?"

Amdalus turns around and says, "Ms. Tetsu, I do not believe I have had the pleasure of your radiant company yet! I am Amdalus Noranoi." He kisses Xexilia's hand and says, "How may I help you?"

She smiles a little and explains, "I need some history of and ruins--where I could possibly find something." She hoped it was enough to say for the moment.

"Any that are so large that it seemed pointless?" She hoped there weren't many of them. "Or perhaps...one that may describe a treasure that cannot be found with sight?"

"Ah... I see where you are going. You seek to find an item that only the blind can find or use. The Ashkoren civilization believed that those who were blind had actually been given a gift, as sight is the main means by which we are deluded by illusion. The Jentals, on the other hand, euthanized the blind, so in the Great Euthanasia Wars a group of blind soldiers developed a style of modern combat leveraging the advantages of being blind on the battlefield. They would use an incredible array of smoking weapons, even including machineguns that intentionally produced primitive-looking clouds, so as to put the governmental forces onto their proverbial terrain. In Dimension 42019 [the Hitchhiker's Guide Dimension], it was common for cultures who had solved all of the problems of disease to distribute items to intentionally put the blind out of sight! And, regarding ruins, there are the Colossi, sealing away ancient heroes... Though probably not exactly what you were looking for." He seems to almost give up for a moment, then sit down. "Ugh. Sorry for all that. I just got a little... depressed there. So, I don't have anything specific on hand... There are some truly large ruins. Ur-Katal is a very big one, as is the Magister."

"Ah, you are asking me to provide a subjective judgment: 'Best' is a value, not a factual, term. Would you like to come into my study? I can make some coffee and show you my information on the topic." Amdalus finishes clipping and begins to take off his gloves. "To be clear: Are you looking for an artifact, a school of martial arts, a..."

And I'm probably going to get really annoying with all of these random short posts with mostly questions. I laugh a little.

Actually, the fact that you capitalize and try to add more detail and description means I'm less annoyed than by Hack's post frenzies . Basically, you were looking for an artifact that only the blind can find or use. Amdalus is wondering what you wanted. You said you wanted an artifact. Now that Viktor has his Library of Black Lore, Amdalus has found something. "Now that you mention it, the Ashkorens did build one weapon that you may like. It is a long arching sword of crystal that can be a permeable and stretchable membrane. The crystal serves to magnify vibration and enhance tactile telekinesis. It effectively enhances second sight or blind-sight, hearing, smell, touch and even taste. It can tighten and contract or expand for defense or altering its dynamics."

"I can take you to the Ashkoren ruins. That's where I'd imagine it'd be. If I know anything about the Ashkorens, they'll have build a labryinth..." He sighs. "Labryinths are boring. Essentially it will blind those who are not blind and will test their ability to cope. Only the truly blind will get into the inner sanctum. Then again, it may just be under a big bug. Who knows? Or cares?" Amdalus shrugs.
