After having burnt down a major criminal's haven, I was meeting with a local noble.

Yes, I remember. You get a call in your hotel room, the caller says that a representative from his Lordship Balian is in the lobby requesting your presence - and that compliance in mandatory.

If compliance were rewarded by death, Cervega would kill his executors for a meeting with the nobles. Cervega dons his mask and his classiest clothes and smiles sinistrally. It is time to meet this Balian. He makes sure to leave substantially early, in case of attackers or opportunities.

You come down to the lobby, his Lordship Balian's representative stands out like a sore thumb. He is adorned with a lavish red silk cloak faceted with gold trinket. Both his hands are wrapped about the top of an ivory cane which he is resting all his weight on. You see the hilt of a bejewled sword sticking out from under his cloak. He grins happily and approaches you, "Greetings Cervega, I am Sir Crimm, Knight of the Order of Watchers and personal envoy to his Lordship Balian, it is a pleasure to meet you." He bows slightly and extends his hand.

"Good day to you and godspeed on all your endeavors, Sir Crimm." Bow in return and shake vigorously but respectfully (unless that is not the etiquette here). "Will it be you who will grace and honor me with his presence as an escort and guide to His Lordship?"

He returns with a solitary nod, "I don't know if I'll be gracing or honoring you Cervega, but I shall be the one bringing you before Lord Balian," He points his cane in the direction of the lobby exit to the richly adored horse drawn wagon waiting out front, "Come with me now, I would like to get back to the palace as quickly as possible, I do not wish to keep his Lordship waiting."

"I'm sure your chivalry and presence will serve me well and will be an honor no matter what transpires." Cervega moves in lock-step with Crimm, moving quickly but not desperately. "As would I. I am most eager to meet the Vaunted Lord so my lowly position can be elevated by being in the presence of His grace, gods willing. I hope I may be of use to him."

Crimm shoots you a quick smile and doesn't say anything else as he climbs into the carriage, after taking his seat he speaks, "There's no need for such flamboyant flattery of Lord Balian in my presence - I don't really care what you think of him. As a matter of fact, I'm sure he doesn't care what you think about him either, all he cares about is getting what he wants from you." Just as Crimm finishes a bell-boy shuts the carriage door and you are taken swiftly into the night.

Cervega says, "There is a time for honesty and there is a time for deception, my dear Crimm. We were among commoners and prying ears, and there are many nobles who indulge in flattery. Do not mistake my behavior for sycophancy, rather testing the ground and putting on the public face." Cervega shall subtly indicate his mask. "Our private faces may contain demons, but our public faces must always be as angels, no matter their true reality. We Are Good. It is a matter of definition. Were that definition to be harassed by such trifles as facts, power would disappear. I fully intend to be cuttingly honest."

Crimm opens a small ice box and pours himself a glass of wine then offers you one, "I certainly hope you intend to be honest, my master easily spots deciet."

"Honesty is the best policy of deceit." Cervega will accept the wine.

Crimm smirks in response and remains quiet for the rest of the ride (unless you want to say something) which lasts about three hours. You arrive at Balians Palace at around two in the morning. A guard opens the carriage door and Crimm gestures for you to step out.

Cervega shall not impose. The silence and comfortability will offer Cervega the opportunity to begin subtle observation and mental probes. When the carriage stops, Cervega steps out quickly and awaits further direction.

The carriage comes to a stop outside the entrance of Lord Balians palace. The door to the carriage swings open on it's own. You immediatly see several human guards fitted with suits of shimmering green plate-mail fashioned in a dark decorum milling around the drop-off point. There's a long stone walk-way leading up to the palace gates with guards armed with spears (which you detect magic auras around) standing sentry every fifty feet or so on either side. Standing right before the gate on either side are two large humanoid shapes cloaked in shadow. You can easily tell that they are not human by their huge size...and bat wings. Crimm steps out and gestures for you to follow him.

Cervega will again briskly follow, smiling serenely as he moves through the heavy encampment. He thinks to himself that a lord who has invested that much into a personal guard must either be dreadfully unpopular or involved in a war, either under or above ground.

The two of you walk up the stone pathway unbothered, even the giant demons guarding the gate remain quiet as the huge stone doors slowly open. Beyond them is stuff I'll describe later when I don't have math in fifteen minutes.

Cervega spends special time greeting the demons. Fellow supernatural creatures should be honored.

....To?

I meant, "Would you care to elaborate on exactly what Cervega is going to say and/or do as a special greeting to these demons?"

Well, what is demon etiquette in TW?

|
|
Post by crazygeneral on Mar 2, 2006 17:24:06 GMT -5
Well, you can tell that these demons are the types that respect power, magic or pure physical endurance and strength, either way, demon etiquitte is very diverese depending on what kind of demon they are and where on the planet they are.

Say, "May your battles be honorable and victorious." Make a generic Demongogian greeting gesture.

One of them grunts hopefully and starts ranting to no one in particular, "We have not seen battle for ages! I miss breaking my opponents open with my bare might!" He then looks down at you for a moment, "I hope your business with Lord Balian goes sourly and that he wishes for me to execute you, I would enjoy spilling your blood." As you can guess, this demon is not enitrely satisfied with his job.

"If my meeting with Balian goes sweetly, you may have more use for your blade than a execution." Leave with that ominous thought.

Cervega will continue to wander through the castle (with its apparently dreary ambience) with the guidance of his companion until he reaches Balian.
