For those of you who play frequently here yet seem not to get much benefit (aside from what I hope is the fun of the experience), note that there is a part of the game that I mostly store subjectively in my head but which provides real benefits: Awards.
To me, benefits to one's character should be concurrent with brilliance in play, ranging from strategy in combat to intelligent interaction with NPCs to good play of one's character. Unfortunately, in game sometimes it isn't sensible to give benefits: for example, an unlikable character or a character averse to conversation may get nothing but hell for playing their character right. Awards are an out-of-character way of substituting for Class Points, Rank Boosts, Affinity Points, Merits, equipment, etc.
Awards can primarily be used as Ability Points would be in FF games: purchase new abilities or improve older ones. Here are options for what to do:
*Make a new character to play *Allow a second Heaven/Hell or Colossus character (only the first are free) *Get Abilities from Classes *Get Abilities from trainers *Get Abilities from elemental spirits *Trait Points *Rerolls of one's own rolls in game *Chances to take back actions or "load" at earlier points *Learning bits about the story *Getting equipment or money *Get training slots
