I suppose that I should bite the bullet and open Crashing Heavens missions. CH is in a sweet position: They get the cream of the crop as far as missions go, able to pick pretty much any mission, whether Normal or F2. The ranking system is in 6 Tiers. Tier 1 is Normal, 2 Legendary, 3 is Forbidden, 4 F2, etc. Tomorrow I'll post some actually available mission blurbs, but if anyone thinks of any type of mission worthwhile, shoot.
EDIT: Here we go. Most people on the team range from 4.0 to 4.2.
T 2.8 E: Nutty Professor Seeks Escort Service! Professor Red Everett, of Splicers Earth, has completed his work of placing a part of the NEXUS Machine, Ishtar, into a multi-tiered command body with bio-mechanical workers. The full tactical skill of a military supercomputer combined with the full power of genetic instinct should create the perfect commander. However, he fears he has enemies in the scientific community and abroad, and many might decide to harass him on the way. Thus, he is paying for an escort service of high Tier 2 status or higher to take him to the scientific conference on Renn.
T 3.7: Conquer Ur-Katal: The ancient and legendary city, possibly the first human city, was recently unearthed in Sumer... and India! A presently non-functioning teleporter device apparently was able to shuttle supplies back and forth in the primordial human dawn. However, Ur-Katal's excavation has brought monsters, demons, and other things of the Old World buried in the deep. It seems even God Herself turned her eyes to this wretched place. The archaeologists' security detail dwindles nighly. They need high Tier 3 assistance!
T 1.7: Bob Cross Begs For Help! Outer Lmit's Ranger office is dealing with a zombie and monster infestation of some potency. Worse, poachers have come to town to collect their quite literal pound of flesh. Bob wants the zombies and monsters gone, hopefully in as humane a way as possible, and the poachers out.
T 4.0: Monster Squads. The Black Knight Guska has holed up in the Mirage Palace, surrounding himself with monstrous fiends and sending powerful monster squads all over the world of Seiken Densetsu. Find the palace, siege it, and bring in Guska alive.

A small team had accepted the mission, "Conquer Ur-Katal". The ancient city, filled with dark catacombs, ancient farmlands, and (most importantly) monsters, giants and demons of the old world, awaits.
Those so far assembled were:
*Spira *Ikiru *Milky *Brunnengus *Daedrous *Kumo Scar-Eye *Beau *X-Rog *Amdalus *Crash Fox
In addition, the team had recruited the help of the Darkwings, a group of rather... sketchy demon and ghost hunters. There are, in addition to thirty Tier 3 mercenaries:
Ronda Belmont: Looked down upon by many other Belmonts, Ronda is the group's spiritual center. She is a hard-nosed hunter of all manner of demons, spectres and ghosts, who has replaced most of her body with mechanical components, replete with a holy water that burns like fire with her righteousness and a cross-boomerang implanted in her arm!
Yurya: All that is known about this particular demon is that it emphasized intangibility, shimmering, metamorphosis, and other demonic powers to hunt down and kill human demon hunters, when it decided (reportedly because of a sufficiently kind demon hunter) to change targets. No less evil for the wear, Yurya has a number of other demon slaves and has a rather shady connection with the Green Scarf Taoists.
Hellfront: A Splicers Dreadguard known as "The Sparkling Ghost", Hellfront uses the pinnacle of bio-technology to devastate his inhuman and unnatural foes.
Holbo Sackwhite: A relatively mild-mannered and kind hobbit, yet adorned with ludicrous amounts of gold, it is a mystery what Holbo is doing with these people. He is well-known for using his small size, acrobatic skill, and array of specialized yet seemingly innocuous weapons to devastate his foes.
Jen Forte:A well-known Mars Adept, Jen is famous for immolating demons produced by the sudden rush of alchemical energy on Weyard. She is very guarded and secretive, seeing hidden motives in all things, yet her paranoia has saved the team many a time. She even almost refused Flashfire to borrow from Crashing Heavens! (Spira's characteristic reply, "We'll be watching it", to "I'll be watching you", surprisingly gained her trust.)
Krontal: A substantially more amoral Titan than Helvena Bart, Krontal is not so well-known. It is rumored that she uses giantess abilities long ago banned by the Titan culture.
The team had purchased or was bringing in: *Turrets and other automated defenses *Defense, exploration and battle droids *Wards of all kinds *Spices and food preparation equipment for Daedrous *Food, medicine, water, refreshments and other drinks, alcohol, etc. *Security and surveillance items *Daedrous' Dark Matter Forge *The Bloody Chakram, part of a Set item called The Circles of Command - Spira immediately held onto it, for reasons so far not explained *Ashkalen the Segmented, a lost Pheonix Lord armor intended for Swaggard but now used by Ikiru, capable of segmenting into anywhere from two to dozens of independently viable pieces *A new Yu-Gi-Oh/Magic deck for Milky: The Gravekeeper's Deck *Healing and restoration items to withstand the next few days *Elements to equip, including 3 mysterious Summons, associated Field Effects, and Traps for First Ancester Loa Summon, Gorillas of the Thorn and Abyss of the Mind.
The team had flown over Iraq, just past the Tigris and Euphrates, to a spot close to where the Garden of Eden may have been. Suddenly, a spherical barrier a mile in diameter could be seen, obviously heavy quarantine ordinance. As the team flew down, a small phalanx of fifty of the archaeologists' guards came up, temporarily opened a hole in the barrier after having set up a tripwire/explosives/barrier quarantine system, and asked for identification. Before they could completely check Amdalus' forged Crashing Heavens ID (while Milky and Spira danced in the background yelling "CRASHING HEAVENS! CRASHING HEAVENS!"), twenty or so of the blackest and most hate-filled ghosts rocketed towards the closing exit, their very preponderance of rage causing the earth and sky to tremble. Crash Fox launched an Umbral physical assault and missed, Ikiru managed to trap two in his ghost traps while a third ghost detonated its trap, Spira began sealing the portal behind him while disguising this fact behind a massive elemental assault.
If anyone wants to join, now'd be the time.
Also: Spira had plans to combine Brunnengus' Incarnate Uther with sealing runes into a sword as anti-evil and sealing weapons, making one for each member. If anyone wants to contribute any ideas or equipment, sounds like a good idea.
And: Thanks to Brunnengus, anyone who wants to can try their luck at Gambling for items in Prima.

A group had begun to delve into Ur-Katal. They managed, after some expense of energy, to excavate one of the five blocked tunnels at the beginning of the dig site. They destroyed a Nightbane and took rare items from it, then explored an area, narrowly avoided blowing up a priceless antique, destroyed a suit of armor protecting an ancient room, and began to battle spirits within a mirror. They bested both the Mist Dragon, gaining a new Summon, and the Impervious Golem, gaining a new Threshold Merit for the team.
Meanwhile, as Jin decided to return to base camp alone to tend to his wounds (and too stubborn to call for an escort), he encountered the Lich who controlled this stretch of tunnel, the boss of the area, and began fighting it alone, single-handedly rescuing Spira who had been kidnapped during the delving process! The two were currently attempting to win against the beast guards.

It say it is a good time for Crawdaddy to go and help them out!!! Or, if Jin wants to go at it alone, we should open a new tunnel perhaps?

Well, Jin just sort of stumbled into it. Crawdaddy had been a victim of a dimensional distortion and reappeared. Crawdaddy can see through the new tunnel the things Jin/Spira are facing: The Lich and four undead beast guards. He can inform the other teammates who are still inside the mirror. Meanwhile, Bandages is outside being part of the team staying back to defend the archaeologists: he can leave to join the action at any time. Alternately, the two can explore the other tunnels or head down the open elevator.

Dryad, when Aegogropilon X was defeated, opened up every tunnel in the Ur-Katal entrance! Now the group that defeated the beast began to go down a long spiral staircase and deal with an insiduous and powerful gravity trap.

I'd like to continue Monster Squads. Mace and the gang just got done taking out a group of monsters near the edge of the forest.

Hadn't Brent gone back to the building to plant a Seed?

Didn't he come back? Oh, he was on his way back. So yeah, Mace got the Light-Light Path update for cantomancy. Now Brent will be heading back to meet up with the group.

Yep. Brent is not intercepted by anything and is back with the group in a jiffy. (BTW, from Valorian every one of your characters gets ANOTHER full D-L path... Nice timing there on getting that seed ). The rest of the jungle awaits.

(W00t!)
The group will continue further into the jungle, Mace sending his RSN out to scout the area. His Gar herd will do the same.

Inside the jungle, the group walks through thick watery marsh before encountering another sunny area. In the distance there is a massive fortress. Suddenly, cutting bursts of wind cut across the ridge, far too powerful to be a natural occurance. [FN: 3, Imp 222, Pwr 147. Deathjester.]

Mace and Crew attempt to jump to the sides to dodge.

That'd either be in front of you or to the side, and the winds are shifting perilously.

Can Mace fire Aeroga at the mass of them to distort the air to unbalance it and make them harmless? If so, I'll try that.

Sweepwind is the wind spell at your level. You can certainly try given your high power and control over magic. Of course, that could just fuel the wind depending on the currents.

Would it be possible to try and use Sweepwind more like a deflecting barrier?

|

Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Jan 6, 2007 1:51:05 GMT -5
Possibly, more like a wind cushion.

|
Post by Mace Parshath on Jan 8, 2007 19:02:27 GMT -5
Alright, we'll use it like that. Would Brent becoming incorpreal help? The wind blades passing through him or something?

Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Jan 8, 2007 19:09:35 GMT -5
He could certainly try.

Alright, Brent will do that. Laura will raise a deflective barrier with a built in barrier-generator.

Mace weaves his Sweepwind about him masterfully, the powerful Forbidden magic curling in his hands like an obedient cat. The wind is repulsed in all directions.
Brent manages to perfectly stabilize himself, rising above the situation. He feels now that this is not only unnatural but being produced by a foe who should long ago have been buried... [FN: Brnt 279/285].
Laura's barrier does not prevent the ground itself from shifting, and she finds herself falling precipitously...
Any Jerry?

Jerry will erect a surrounding shield of six massive Ace of Spades cards that spin around him to block physical attacks.

The wind moves right past and through the cards. Jerry is also being thrown about.

Laura will try jumping up and grabbing Jerry. If she fails, Jerry's RSN will try to catch him, use a spiked chain to pin himself down, and bring Jerry along to hold him against the ground.

...Laura's falling too, you know that, right?
All four of their RSNs are being thrown about, as are all of Mace's, Laura's and Jerry's DIO. Brent's are okay.

Brent will have the shield bugs of the Tzemke to fly near the near the team and their DIO to grab ahold of them and suddenly drops, pushing their weight down to hold them down. Brent will use the chronokinetic version of Stop (Time) on the general area, not on his team though, so that the wind will stop, temporarily, at least, and try and use his combat telepath abilities to try and locate the neural signature, wanting to use any ability to permanently make the enemies brain's into mush, but settles for a simple Mind Quake, psionic tremors that will hopefully break the enemy's concentration. He won't try any of this except the time freeze if the enemy is up in the castle.
Mace will try and direct his counter-attack to sweep the wind coming at Jerry and Laura away, hopefully giving Laura enough time to locate the source with her good set of sniper eyes and fire at it with her sniper rifle.

The Shield Bugs themselves find it impossible to push through the wall of wind. The Stop allows Brent to get a little bit of time... but he finds not one, but seven identical signatures! Worse, the illusory effects of the jungle are making his time stop have some interesting ramifications.
Mace and Jerry manage to get into the time stop with Brent. Laura remains frozen. How does that alter your actions?

Ardunum, Mephiasu, and a few others cleared out a room of the Emergency Response Barracks! Sonya Pettrovich has asked the team to help furnish automatic defenses: Sounds like another way to spend the money the team earns.

Krane, Nekia, Mace, Jerry, Brent, and Laura went past the hallway that contained Poen. They encountered a number of ancient barbarian races from the time of Ur-Katal's fall that were trapped during the city's fall from grace. Nekia, Krane, Laura and Jerry convinced them to follow the group, and they ascended the Mountaintop!
Poen's Colossus' defeat did a few things. It reduced the amount of shadows in Ur-Katal, making the illumination higher; it reduced the power of shadow entities and makes it easier for CH to defend against shadow attacks and even use the shadows for themselves; and it has revealed tunnels that might make the descent through the city faster.
