No need to be a girl, it'd make sense for you to have special seals from Raine or simply have managed the sexualized urges of the Awakening (for now, the risk always being there just as with any Claymore). What do you have as your special ability?
Based on your group, it seems that you'd be assigned to deal with demon incursions.

So you're a Quicksword specialist. Anything special you do with that?
Oh, Raine gets four spells and Sheena gets four abilities, but Sheena also gets Gnome.
Here's the background:
Jesse had been kidnapped from juvenile hall after some stunt. He doesn't remember much, but when he woke up, he felt this strange urge within him. He was much stronger, much faster, and yet it felt far from wonderful. Luckily, he met two people who were dealing with rumors of a demon, a ninja and a former teacher. Raine identified what was going on with Jesse and managed to put seals on him that would restrict his Awakening. This strange group now was tasked with hunting demons, in order to give Jesse a chance to grow and discover himself as well as figure out the mystery of what was going on.
Their primary contact was a strange man in San Francisco, a tour bus and curiosity shoppe owner named Egg Shen. The Chinese man seemed harmless enough, though he had gotten into some legal trouble after an entire building in San Francisco blew up. He was giving them a little apartment in Chinatown above a small movie theater to live in, crowded enough but still homey. As he had many times before, Egg Shen called them on their answering machine. "We have yaoguai trouble, in Xenosia! Folder under your door!"

I want to be the fastest swordsman in the world, plain and simple. I originaly wanted to be a fencer but that dous'nt seem very claymore-ish.
I updated my team list with their skills.
Jesse: *Yawn* "Well looks like we gotta go bag em' and tag em'."
Raine: "With that attitude your more likely to get yourself killed."
Sheena: "Lay off him Raine he's more capable than he looks."
Jesse: "Thanks Sheena anyway were is this place exactly Raine?"

You could have a fencing background, which would help explain your focus on Quicksword and would make you that much more different from other Claymore (and would give you some martial discipline to keep you from Awakening). It'd give you an esoteric fighting style even with a BFS, something like Charlotte from Samurai Shodown.
Raine sees, confirming what she knew, that Xenosia is on the eastern continent on Hael. It's a kingdom that has been peaceful for generations under King Xenos the III. Many countries around it, like Aertrya and Vorthoelm, were formerly part of Xenosia but split off, relatively peacefully, over the last forty years. It's odd that demons would be there in particular, but supposedly there have been rumors of a marked increase in demon activity.

There's three plane tickets from a private airport (apparently Egg Shen called in a favor) and three boat tickets from there.

As the group goes to the private airport near San Francisco, they move through the island to get onto the BART. Near the BART in a relatively isolated area, the group hears a fairly loud and strange creaking sound. It's a thirty foot parking space, seemingly private, with a few streetlamps, several parked vehicles, a large electrical box and a swamp cooler system for the nearby building. No one seems to be around.
All of a sudden, there is a incredibly bright flashing light and the sound of shattering glass! Jesse is blinded for a few moments, feeling quite sharp pain. Genis finds it hard to see but is not fully blinded. Sheena's ninja training allows her to not only avoid the flash but also the broken glass, quickly seeing what is going on. She can hardly believe it, however, as one of the streetlamps bends and twists like a snake, its broken lampsocket opening up into several metallic mouths! Genis is shaken by the horrific sight and the unworldly motion, but Jesse and Sheena keep their cool. Jesse and Genis mostly avoid taking any damage from the burst of broken glass, with a few scratches here and there. [42 and 67 damage respectively!]

Genis?
OOG do my eyes turn gold?
Sheena runs at the monster with Jesse close behind.Sheena uses power seal on the monster.Jesse then takes advantage of this and follows up with a quick sword.
Raine(if she has action) will cast first aid.

OOG: Yes, I imagine they would. Augh, Raine, I always confuse them.
Sheena's cards fly through the air. The creature hisses and bats them away. Sheena can instantly tell that this monster is not strictly supernatural, as the effect of the cards which often are effective against the supernatural given their inscriptions don't seem to do much so the cards merely act as sharp projectiles. Sheena thinks some of the lack of effect had to do with it being a lamppost and therefore solid metal. Jesse's quick sword has the same problem, as even with his immense strength the blade bounces off. It's not helped by the fact that most of his shots miss even against a largely immobile target as he simply can't see. Raine has action, she's just partially blinded. She First Aids to top them off.
The creature sweeps out in a long snaking arc with its teeth, bashing and cutting. Sheena easily dodges. Jesse and Raine have reaction, but Jesse will struggle to react because he is still blinded and Raine will have some difficulty. Raine can tell that the thing's motion is poorly calculated and that it should be possible to dodge away, but helping Jesse get away will be more difficult.

OOG is it still attached to the ground?
Rain will cast dispel on Jesse hopefully curing him of his blindness and allowing him a better dodge . (But in order to cast the spell she will have to take the hit)
Jesse will jump over the lamppost monster as it comes near him.
"Damn nothing we do seems to work if only one of us new elemental magic oh well."

OOG: It is, but it seems to have complete flexibility aside from that. Like a creepy snake guy or a whipping vine.
Raine knows that Dispel only works on magical afflictions. This was a purely physical light bomb. She also knows that she cannot cast any complex spell as a reaction. Raine can still react for herself, however.
Jesse jumps but his timing and positioning is off, and he is struck and thrown to the side. He gets some cuts from teeth, but the damage isn't very notable. [He rolled so low the Dispel wouldn't have mattered].

I didnt think dispel was all that complex sorry.
Raine will jump back out of reach.
our turn?
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Jan 14, 2013 1:11:53 GMT -5
Well, it's not super complex, but most non-cantrip spells don't work well for reactions because they require chanting, focusing of energy, somatic components and sometimes use material components all while being aggressed. Some cantrips can be used that way, some spells are specifically designed to quickly be used for reactions (such as Counterspell, Targeted Deflection, Implosion Neutralizer), and there are Merits and such that can be learned to make it easier, but healing spells in particular tend to not be eligible for use as reaction.
Raine easily succeeds.
Your turn.

Sheena will summon Gnome digging a very deep hole under it in hopes that he will fall in it. (depending on how much time this will take Jesse will probably just cover her while Raine casts barrier on Jesse)
If Jesse dousnt have to do that he will run up to it and try to distract it from Sheena while Raine casts barrier on Jesse.

Sheena begins chanting but it is taking longer than she anticipates for the initial phases. Jesse can attack as his action then move into position to block as a reaction. Jesse's second barrage damages it more, ironic given that this time he is trying to distract it. He seems to have found his rhythm and the creature's natural armor is being penetrated.
The creature launches another inexpert attack, and between the power of the Barrier and his blocking, Jesse takes no damage and protects Sheena. Your actions again.

Gnome is almost complete.
Jesse tears the lamppost apart, metal shavings and electronics flying everywhere. The thing arcs and whimpers, trying to slither away but fixed to the ground, until it is destroyed.

"Cool but weird hey Raine do you know what that thing was I mean my eyes turned gold so it was probably a demon but ive never seen anything like that before?"
"I hope things like that arent popping up all over the place, sullivans could get seriously hurt... or worse." said Sheena

OOG: Civilians.
Raine thinks for a moment. The fact that his eyes turned gold indicates the presence of SOME supernatural activity, but the thing was clearly not a demon based off of its reactions to Sheena's cards and its general behavior and resistances. Should she share these suspicions, or avoid worrying her comrades?
There is little more either way of note until they arrive at the private airport. They're to take a small charter plane to Hael then take a boat the rest of the way. Hael's merchant marine is larger than Earth's due to there being generally fewer airplanes and airships. The pilot is a by-the-book, friendly Asian man, with no discernible accent. "Hello, and welcome to The Flying Tiger. I am your pilot, Leo Chen. Please let me see your tickets, and we can begin loading any baggage".

OOG: i went to auto correct it and it came up with that lol i didnt even notice.
Raine will put them at ease teling them that it was just a freak demon attack that just happened to have resistance.
Sheena: "Thank you Mr. Chen (slight bow)

He examines your tickets. The names are fake; Egg Shen likes to work underground. Mr. Chen doesn't seem to care very much; Sheena can tell that he's quiet, methodical, and smart enough not to ask questions he doesn't want the answers to. An ideal person for those wishing to remain subtle.
The airplane ride begins. The plane is small but comfy, with about six seats, decent aisle space, and provided refreshments. He has a small cocktail bar with beer and some liquors, some peanuts, and really good local bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). He instructs everyone to keep cell phones and electronics off and what to do in the event of a crash, which mostly boils down to "Put on parachutes and jump if I tell you, otherwise buckle up and hold on". It definitely has a 1970s vibe in terms of the seating and upholstery.
The airplane ride is relatively uneventful, but there is nonetheless a sense of foreboding in the air. Aside from the memory of the monstrous lamppost creature, there are occasional bouts of turbulence and a twilight darker than any in recent memory. The pilot hears some radio bursts of frantic communication, worried for a moment, then communicates, "The Ranger's Wings apparently just went down". Jesse recognizes the importance of this, though it takes Sheena and Raine a little longer: That is the airship of Thrash Ranari and Badcat Xiang, probably the two poster children for the Rangers. The airship was commonly believed to be actually indestructible.
The airplane eventually lands in the port city of Hohel-Hillal in Venecia, in the main middle-most continent of Hael. The airport is small and clearly mostly designed for private and police airships. Nonetheless, a modern tower guides them. Jesse isn't used to the terminal, which is more of a large-ish gentleman's club and travel agent-style area filled with Victorian-esque and Middle Eastern-styled art, frescoes, furniture, adorned columns, and merchants than a proper airline terminal. And yet, like a very strange bastion of normality, there is a McDonald's somewhere in the center of the bazaar-like central area.
Hohel-Hillal is a major area of business. Even in the Venecian empire, it was known as a merchant's city. Nonetheless, there is also an underside, so people are advised to keep an eye on their wallets.
The boat leaves in about two hours, beginning in the night hoping to avoid a rainstorm which is slated to strike in the morning. It will arrive late morning, around 10 AM, in Xenosia. The group has some time to burn until then.

Jesse: "Well what do you guys want to do?"
Raine and Sheena just look and smile looking back at Jesse. "Were going to go to the local pub and have a drink or two. Too bad your too young Jesse (snicker*) and it would be immoral for you to lie your way in."
Jesse: "What thats not fair come on."
Sheena and Raine start walking off and call back "sorry Jesse rules are rules."
"Stupid Raine stupid Sheena," he mumbles to himself as he angrily walks off in the other direction hoping to find something to kill the two hour wait.

Raine and Sheena find a pub. It's actually fairly upscale, with nice appetizers like bruschetta-like things, seared squid kebabs, a delicious chilled molokheiya soup, and starroot hummus. There is a special attention to incense and aromas in the bar, with each booth and table having their own incense stick. A Coal Dancer does his show, impaling his skin like a sewing needle with impossibly sharp swords. The local delicacy is a fig wine, and their beer is all a very light grain beer much in the manner of the ancient Egyptians. As the women sit and drink, many men introduce themselves. The Venecian men have the tenacity of Arabian men and the charm of Italian men, and it becomes clear that Sheena in particular can have her pick of anyone in the bar.
Meanwhile, little Jesse finds himself on the docks. Suddenly, two long tongues shoot to grab his leg! He finds himself easily dodging the first by instinct but the second is not so easy. He may react, however. His eyes are definitely yellow, and he smells demonic corruption.

Sheena will cozy up with the closest man attempting to get free drinks and enjoy the chance to get drunk while Raine will shyly drink her drink.
Using his superhuman abilities Jesse will jump high up into the air.

Sheena succeeds quite well at cozying up to the nearest guy. He's cute enough, but pretty soon he pushes a bit more than Sheena'd prefer. "Come on, pretty woman, don't be so frigid. My room is warm..."
Meanwhile, Jesse leaps into the air. The lightning speed of his assailants are incredible. Jesse sees that the tongue is sharp, with spines surging out of it, and a black ichor oozes from the tongue. Jesse feels himself become weak, but his regeneration manages to push out what Jesse realizes is a demonic toxin. Now that the tongue has locked in, Jesse sees a black-skinned monster leap into the air. It is a beast with a long scorpion-like tail, barbs and curving spurs all over its body, long dagger-like claws, and a triangular face with numerous horns along the side.
