...At whom or what? I assume the enemy ship, but what part of it? Single shots, bursts, what? Describe what the gauss rifle looks like, sounds like, etc.

well the gauss Rifle would be soundless in the vaccum of space, as with the flak alternating shots between concentrated flak (like the choke on a shotgun) and gauss, at the ship.

Actually, the power of your weapons sometimes creates an artificial medium formed of the energy that is created by the attack combined with the scarce ambient particles in space; anyways, virtually all CotG characters can hear in space.
The gauss and flak cannons fail to strike the ship that is revealed. It appears that it is a smallish bounty-hunter sized ship, obviously intended to whittle down stronger foes with powerful armaments and not with a direct fight. Its evasive manuevers are attempting to get it back into cover. Shi has more action.

This attack does take hold. The bounty hunter ship is finally torn apart. Will the attack continue to kill the person inside, or will Shi examine him first?

Shi chooses to examine him first, after having reduced his combat potential significantly.
