Hunter.net. The BRPD. The cell phones of Cassidy, Cory and Feickert. All bear record to an attempt to rescue a family.
It appears that the outcome of this attempt has had incredibly broad-reaching impacts. Anyone watching the news was treated to national television coverage of the following events.
Near Boreal Ski Lodge, close to gorgeous Lake Tahoe, the government apparently attempted a hush-hush evacuation of a fifty mile area because of a supposed wildfire and animal scare. The local attention given to this task soon discovered helicopters, gunfire and the sounds of heated combat. A helicopter supposedly connected with a well-known crime syndicate was identified as well as government models. Gouts of flame, crackling lightning, and reports of "red men and gigantic blue winged snakes with limbs" were the talk of the day. The government attempted a press blackout, but grainy images made live broadcast.
And then something happened no one could cover up.
A bolt of lightning dwarving any other in recorded history by an order of magnitude emerged from nowhere. It was the width of a football field. It smashed into a mountain, burrowing into it, spreading debris for hundreds of miles. Four hundred people died and several hundred more were injured across a good portion of Northern California and even into Nevada.
Cory is informed by the BRPD that, while none of their operatives were hurt, when they explored the debris no one was to be found, not even bodies.
Fred, Mario, Ray, Joe, Black, Kaylie and Brian have seemingly disappeared from existence. In fact, even their cell phone numbers have disappeared. And some people peripherally connected to them don't even seem to remember them.
In Africa, there are now undeniable reports of war, lightning bolts, and monsters sweeping over capitals. Combat and riots are breaking out all over America, including California. A cult in Las Vegas has emerged saying that they worship Destruction but that their Lord has decided to embrace humanity and are fighting back. The world seems to be becoming much more apocalyptic...
