Last we left off... Cory, Black and Fred continued while Joe seemed to have disappeared. They found a water spring, began their trek across the desert, were attacked by strange ninjas with no headband or obvious village affiliation, then were approached by a man claiming to represent Chibatsu Corporation. Now they were deciding whether to accept the man's strange offer...

Well, Black is still deciding on his precise course of action.
Fred says, "Well, we have no problem pursuing multiple courses of employment; after all, all ninja have a day job. But are there any diverging interests from Sand? And if so, what can you show us to indicate that you're trustworthy?"
Jet picks up that Fred is desperately leveraging Focus, Passion and Serenity to keep his mind as clear as possible, but Cory and Jet know Fred well enough that they can guess what he's thinking: He's interested in the proposal, trying to keep his thoughts down so that this guy doesn't mind read them (since Fred detects psychic power), wondering what Shibatsu Corporation's real intents are, and trying to position himself vis-a-vis the many factions. He wants to work for Shibatsu AND Sand, getting as much as he can from both while retaining plausible deniability on both ends, and possibly taking over either. A complex game, indeed.

It isn't. Unfortunately, you got lost which is how we got separated from you, so we'll have to play that out.

Black's probably going to just go along with it for the time being. He'll wait until it proves necessary to rock the boat other than his already said piece.
"So long as you're aware that snakes don't hesitate to bite other snakes I suppose it can't hurt to see what he has in mind"
If it comes down to being evil Black just won't, but he's willing to admit things might look different on the other side of the fence which is why he'll go along for the time being. But cautiously so.

Right, things rarely are simple with "evil bad guy" printed on the lapel of a dictator with a top hat, curly handlebar moustache, swastikas and a monocle. Orochimaru, for example, was and seemed evil, but he also was acting against Akatsuki, which is arguably good.
For once, I actually DO need your internal monologue and how you intend to steel your mind from outside influences, so I can work out exactly what the guy gleans.

Oh shit...it has been a while since I've typed my play. I FORGOT THE INTERNAL MONOLOGUE! For shame...for shame.
---------------------
A look of irritation will overtake Blacks face. A muffled combination of an exasperated sigh and a disgruntled grunt emits from his mouth as his eyes roll halfway upwards.
God damnit, why does the low tier guy have to be the one who doesn't like the idea? Can't these people just stick with something for once? damn it!
But...
No good will come from judging things preemptively. It might even turn out for the better...or not.
Well, regardless I suppose it wouldn't hurt to see a bit more before making up my mind. At least then if it DOES turn out I don't like what's going on I'll have more to go on than just a bias.
....and tits.

OOG: Would you, as a Sand Ninja, really call yourself "low tier"? I mean, would that terminology occur to you? You can be playing Black with a headband, but I think it's more interesting to play Black with the full background and terminology of a Sand Ninja.
That mindset seems to appease the Shibatsu Corp. representative. Fred says, "Looks like we're all in. But we're independent contractors, right?" The Shibatsu representative smiles back and says, "Of course, of course. We want you to retain your ties to Sand. You'll need to be blindfolded and deafened for the next part of the operation - do you mind? It's for security.

OOG: I meant I was low tier compared to the other people in the current group, not just in power but in connetivity. I'd imagine what I have to say would have far less sway than say...Cory might have to say. That and I'm much worse at effectively rockin' the boat than anyone currently there.
Black will reluctantly accept the blindfold and deafening.

Take the blindfold and tie it on. Jet will talk to fred through mind powers. "hey fred I wonder what they are going to do about my pets? I mean as far as they know I can't read minds"

They do not actually provide the blindfolds. Rather, the ground surges behind you, and white noise earphones followed by headbags are quickly affixed. Fred's insect queen escapes their notice, and thus is able to view things, but Cory's dogs are also blindfolded and the bag smells strongly enough that they can't get any olfactory clues.
A forced march later, you feel yourselves stepping into a cooler space with what feels like tile or linoleum floors.

Before the bags are taken off, the group feels the cool of a concrete warehouse and feels something roughly adhered to them. When the bags are removed, they see the corporate head and a number of the featureless ninjas from before.
Meanwhile, Joe finally bursts out of the sandlamprey he had been swallowed by. His heirloom weapons had protected him well. He sees his friends being dragged off and may be able to follow surreptitiously.

I'll try to follow as quietly as one can in Platemail, perhaps jumping from high tree to high tree in an attempt to stay out of sight, using air alchemy to try to bring a small vacuum over the noisier parts of my armor to prevent sound from escaping.

Remember that your legendary armor has NO prowl penalties, makes no additional sound, and constrains your motion not a whit. You leap from tree to tree in traditional Naruto style, keeping up with the team.

The Shibatsu Corporation executive smiles with his leery, almost feline grin. "Welcome to your new employment. I apologize for the rough treatment, but it was necessary to install the bombs." The formerly-mentioned adhesive item is apparently a combination microphone and bomb. "It can be detonated at a distance by my chakra signature or the chakra signature of any other Shibatsu Corporation executive. This is simply to prevent you from engaging in a... conflict of interest."
The man continues. "If you show your trustworthiness through this operation, we promise we will remove the bombs and reward you handsomely. For now, we simply need you to get the best information you can of all of the accumulated Jounin, Chuunin, Genin, Kage and associated military forces at this Chuunin Exam. You will be informed of the next stage of the plan soon."

" No problem. Will you have a problem if any of them die in a inconvent accident? or do you want us not killing anyone?"

"Not killing anyone would be preferred, at least until we launch the plan. But if you can, confirm it through us..."

"At the moment, keep an eye on things, don't tip anyone off, try to quietly neutralize anyone who may suspect, complete the survival test - which we will do for you by dropping you off at the end, substantially before most of your comrades I should note, and then use the preparation time before the next time of the examination strategically."

OOG:Fred is there any way I can get some more pets? not really combat types, survalence kind? ones that can help me do this quest?
"All right. Do you have any equipment that might help us out?"

|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Mar 4, 2009 5:04:08 GMT -5
OOG: Uhhhhhh... in the context of the quest or outside of it? In the quest, beastmaster and bugmaster ninjas use animals for a variety of functions, including surveillance and tracking.
"Yes, but at least initially it would not be wise for you to have such equipment on you, in case you are searched. We can provide you with them in equipment scrolls later, of course."

OOG: Well, considering you're a werewolf and you have like six dogs, that doesn't seem to be that serious of a concern.
Fred says, "Yes, we'll make sure that the interests of Shibatsu Corporation are attended to."
