Well, since we never got to play out Mace and Quion's grand battle, think we could do that?

...Sure, I guess, though it's not really training. This is both pre-CH.

I figured I might as well make use of the thread for things before my real adventures. I don't think I'll be playing out any of my trainings, just this battle. Is that alright that I do it in this thread or should I do it in another?

Do it in another. Playing out your trainings is a great idea.

Actually, yeah, you're right. I created another thread for Mace's past, so we will eventually make it to their fight.
So how about we start Mace's training with Fred?

No, the Quion fight should be handled now, I think.
Father/son training or actual training?

Actual training, though I don't see the difference. And I'll create a new thread for Quion then.

Well, there's a different in terms of both the content and the timeline.
What in particular? Or do you want me to pick?

You go ahead and pick, I don't know where to start.

Okay. Martial arts training? Magic and Magi powers? Philosophy?

Philosophy or martial arts.

...Should I roll a dice as to which?

...Let's go with martial arts. : P

The two are in an empty field. The terrain varies somewhat, but it is largely comfortable and flat, the variation occurring outside of a roughly twenty-foot ring. Fred stands in the middle, wearing his leather jacket, wings going through the jacket but tucked up neatly. "I was originally trained in Kenpo, but then added Aikido, Lee Kwan Choo, and other arts. Now, we could just teach you styles, and that'd be fine, but..." Fred seems to be waiting for Mace to add a theoretical observation.

"That would limit me, wouldn't it? Sticking to only a few things?" Mace looks up at Fred and stands with his left foot leading and his arms up, southpaw with his little fists clenched. "Mike showed me how to box a little...that's about it. He mostly just showed me how to fix space shuttles though." He looks down at himself, as his jeans and white T-shirt, and checks to make sure that he rolled up his pant legs up enough to keep his feet clear.

"No, specialization can be good." Fred steps into a neutral horse position, one hand roughly eye level, the other about waist level. "I was actually saying that to know something, one needs to understand its function. For you, what do martial arts do? What are their intent to achieve?"

"Uhh..." He seems kind of intimidated now that Fred, someone far larger than himself, is looking ready to fight. "Um...to..." He tries to find the words but fear that Fred might attack while he's distracted keeps his voice in check. He swallows hard. "To defend myself until I can learn the cooler stuff? I can't actually fight that well..." He attempts to sway Fred from wanting to come at him, by playing on the idea that Fred would win and break him in no time. Which is true, but still.

"You not fighting that well is what we're here to remedy. Why would you want to be able to fight, and why particularly with your hands?", Fred asks, as he calmly moves around the ring.

Ohgodohgodohgodohgod he's actually gonna hurt me! Mace follows the dance, as it's put. He shuffles his feet, following Fred in the same direction, trying to keep as much distance from Fred as possible.
"Uh...uh..." He swallows again and looks at Fred's wings. Originally he thought them really cool, but now they just scare the hell out of him. "To keep BIG SCARY MEN FROM KICKING THE CRAP OUTTA ME!?" He screams, now curled up into a ball on the floor and and hiding his face behind his arms and whining.

Fred sighs. "This isn't going to be full contact. Come on, get up. I know you can do this. If you tap me, anywhere here", he says softly, showing his main body and face, "then we 'break', or step back to starting positions, and start again."
OOG: I thought we were going to do training when Mace was a bit...older?

(Let's do that. I'll start from when Fred starts circling the ring.)
Mace circles the ring as well, mimicking his adoptive father. He didn't particularly believe he would stick to martial arts, maybe he would for the more intangible arts, like magic. "Because a lot of people don't know how to fight with any sort of extraordinary abilities, like magic or ki. Sure, guns are prominent and many have claws, but there is still the many who don't have either. Besides, if someone as powerful as my dad needed to beat me with his hands, then obviously not a lot of people have the confidence or courage to use a gun." He keeps his attention on Fred. "The philosophy can be useful for life. The physical aspects of martial arts can help my health and my confidence in general. I want peace of mind knowing I can take care of myself in situations other than combat. Martial arts is just another way of going about that idea. Peace."
