OOG: I am pretty sure this was a quest for mephiasu so I'm going off of that.
Mephiasu had heard of it yes a blade that could put its user into levels of the abyss to attack its foes a powerful weapon in the right hands, in his hands. However he needed to find it and he did not know exactly where to start. He began by researching the stories and the tales to see if they gave a clue to where it was. If that did not work he went through the archaeologists and lore masters on the team to see if they knew anything.

The library contains the expected: Successions of kings, minutiae about peasantry (interesting to scholars, not to bladehunters), endless patterns of blades for comparison of make and design. The array is like a stupefying bromide: Mephiasu finds it hard to retain his interest, even though he has put in more long nights studying than many would anticipate. Finally, he found a gem: In Eberron, a supposedly now-extinct sect of Warlocks decided to make their powers more consistent by using a blade that they would circulate among the sect, a blade that would place them close to the Abyssal planes and thus able to use the power by proximity but without the risk of pacts! The members were in legend alternatively villains and heroes until finally their members were whittled down by Gatekeepers, angry fiends, and others. The blade was rumored to be sealed in Eberron, though not every member of the sect was left unaccounted for...
