Notes on Tobidougu Ippuku (Projectile Scroll) and Futago Ryuu (Twin Dragon) techniques. These techniques will vary widely depending on the personal prefernces of the characters using them. It is important to remember that although the scrolls can hold many small throwing weapons, that the number will vary depending on how large the weapon is. A scroll could for instance hold many shurikens, but not as many kunai, and even fewer small hand held weapons that can be thrown. It is up to the user to decide exactly what kind of weapons their character throws from these scrolls. It should also be noted that simply because you can throw every single weapon in the scroll in a single post, you don't have to. You can string it out over several posts, throwing a few at a time but the fewer you throw, the less overwhelming it is and thus easier to avoid in some fashion.
Note: This tree requires Projectile Specialist Scrolls.
Level 1
Mukuro Manako (Dead Eye)
Requirements: Tactics 2, Control 2
Description: The fundamental technique of the Projectile Specialist. This technique allows the user to carefully coordinate the flow of chakra between their eyes and hands. As a result of this control the user throws ranged weapons with almost unfailing accuracy and at a speed roughly 25% faster than most other shinobi of the same rank. The projectiles are not guided of course and can still be blocked or avoided. This technique requires very little in the way of chakra and most Projectile Specialists have learned to use it almost without thinking.
Tobidougu Ippuku (Projectile Scroll)
Requirements: Intelligence 3, Power 2
Description: The user unrolls a special scroll prepared specifically for this technique and spins it around their body like a swirling ribbon. As the scroll unrolls special symbols on the scroll summon a variety of throwing weapons which the user throws in rapid succession at a target or targets. It is important to remember that in order to perform this technique properly the user must constantly move their body around even while keeping the scroll swirling around them in order to create a varied and somewhat unpredictable swarm of throwing weapons flying at their intended target.
Jiikaze (Second Wind)
Requirements: Tactics 3, Reserves 2
Description: This technique allows the user to attach small threads to large numbers of throwing weapons and in essence pull them back for a second chance at throwing them or simply using the threads to whip the weapons around in a sharp, entangling, unpredictable mass. Genin use normal wires to perform this technique but Chuunin have learned to create chakra threads similar to those used by puppet masters.
Level 2
Futago Ryuu (Twin Dragon)
Requirements: Tactics 5, Intelligence 4, Willpower 4
Description: Similar to the projectile scroll but technically deadlier; the user takes two scrolls and has them twirl upwards in the air creating a double helix around them. The user jumps to the top of the helix as it rises and then using both hands begins to rapidly throw literally dozens of different throwing weapons at selected targets. This barrage of projectiles is extremely difficult to block or avoid without some sort of very specialized defensive technique that can deflect multiple projectiles.
Hanabi (Fireworks)
Requirements: Power 5, Control 4, Reserves 4
Description: This technique calls forth a series of large and small paper spheres that seem to be constructed of paper and wood. Each individual sphere will emit a tiny amount of smoke for a split second either while still in the air or after hitting the ground. The spheres then explode in a dazzling array of colors and sounds. The flashes from the fireworks while not exactly blinding in the way of a flash bang are none the less enough to obscure vision and the sounds of the fireworks while not damaging are sufficiently loud enough to be painful to the ears. This technique is not particularly harmful to a target but it will often leave them dazed and confused for a moment.
Kumo no Bakudan (Spider Bomb)
Requirements: Tactics 6, Intelligence 6, Power 4
Description: This technique at first seems to be a small sphere with a multitude of senbon needles sticking out of it. Unwary targets may believe it is simply some sort of strange projectile but its true purpose becomes apparent when it emits a loud ‘pop’ and the senbon needles fly out in every direction. Contained within the sphere is a liquid that rapidly thickens and hardens in the air and as the senbon needles fly out from the sphere they carry a small amount of this liquid with them. The resulting sticky threads are much like a thick spider’s web and will fall down to coat anything within a 10 foot radius in threads. The threads, while very sticky, are not very strong and will not serve to immobilize a target but will reduce their speed by half.
Level 3
Outou no Bakudan (Cherry Bomb)
Requirements: Tactics 8, Intelligence 8, Willpower 6
Description: When the user performs this technique they sweep a scroll in front of themselves and unleash what seems to be thousands of sakura petals. There are enough petals in the air that the user is obscured from sight for a moment as the petals seem to blow by some unseen wind toward the target. The user frequently uses this moment to disappear but doesn’t have to do so. As the sakura petals surround the target they suddenly ignite in a thousand tiny explosions, blinding and deafening the target for a moment as well as potentially causing a multitude of small burns and injuries.
Fukku Ami (Hook Net)
Requirements: Power 8, Control 6, Reserves 8
Description: The user throws what seems to be a tangled mess of wires and hooks at a target but as the ball of wire leaves the users hands it rapidly unfurls itself in to about a dozen separate wires with hooks on the end. The wires wrap themselves around the target to bind them and the hooks dig in making escape from the wires a difficult and painful experience. In addition to the hooks, the wires themselves are sharp on each side but they are not usually sufficient to shred clothing unless considerable effort is used, damage to soft tissue however is almost certain if the wires rub against a struggling opponent.
Ekihi (Liquid Fire)
Requirements: Tactics 9, Intelligence 9, Power 7
Description: This technique is little more than a large number of glass balls that are thrown in the general direction of the target. The balls are extremely fragile and will crack upon impact with any solid surface, including clothing and skin tissue. The liquid inside the spheres has a strong almost overwhelming odor but the real effect is a slowly building burning sensation that occurs anywhere the liquid comes in to contact with skin, including areas where clothing has become saturated. The sensation while not actually harmful is painful enough to make the victim unable to focus chakra for one post but is not sufficient to make them more than momentarily vulnerable.
Level 4
Kataha no Bakudan (Blade Bomb)
Requirements: Tactics 12, Intelligence 11, Willpower 10, Power 12
Description: The user throws what appears to be a metal ball with many long spikes sticking out of it. While this is dangerous in and of itself on some levels the real power of this technique is revealed when the ball explodes with the power of an explosive tag plus the additional benefit of scattering small pieces of metal along with the spikes sticking out of the ball. This technique is indiscriminate and the user must be careful not to be too close to the ball when it explodes. Prudence also dictates that shinobi will make sure their team members are also not close when it explodes.
Michibiku Kunai (Guided Kunai)
Requirements: Power 12, Control 11, Reserves 10, Tactics 12
Description: A simple but clever technique this allows the user to take advantage of a more precisely controlled version of the Second Wind technique. The user throws two kunai or other ranged weapons as normal but attached to each is an almost invisible thread that allows the user to guide their weapons around objects and chase after moving opponents. Another advantage of this technique allows the user to throw the weapons seemingly as normal and then after an opponent dodges the user will then make the kunai turn 180 degrees presumably to hit the target in the back. The 180 degree turn takes another turn to completely and cannot be used in a single post.
Hanpatsu (Rebound)
Requirements: Tactics 14, Intelligence 13, Willpower 11, Control 10
Description: By further expansion of the Dead Eye technique the user is now able to precisely control the movement of their hands in conjunction by coordination of the chakra between their eyes and their upper extremities. This ability allows the user to, in effect, catch and almost immediately launch an opponents throwing weapon back at them. The user is able to rebound one weapon for each level of the Projectile Tree they achieve plus one for every five points in tactics.
Level 5
Outou Shounetsujigoku (Cherry Inferno)
Requirements: Tactics 17, Intelligence 16, Willpower 16, Power 15
Description: Initially this technique will appear similar to the cherry bomb technique with the exception that when it is used the user always vanishes from sight. As before the user unleashes a large number of sakura petals that rush forward as if carried by a strong wind toward the target but this time when the petals explode they do so in an incendiary fashion burning anything within the cloud of petals as well as setting most flammable objects ablaze.
Kutsuu no Youun (Cloud of Pain)
Requirements: Power 17, Control 16, Reserves 16, Tactics 15
Description: At first this seems to be nothing more than a series of multicolored smoke bombs but the exact effects become apparent when the bombs explode creating not just smoke but a very fine mist within the smoke. The mist clings to and highly irritates skin, creates a severe burning sensation in the eyes forcing them to close and tear up, and if the mist is inhaled even slightly it creates severe inflammation in the nose, mouth, throat and lungs. This mist is dangerously crippling and its effects are almost instantaneous after the bombs explode. The full effect lasts for one post and is decreased by half twice over the course of the next two posts (50% effective, then 25% effective).
Kantsuu Entou (Penetrating Throw)
Requirements: Tactics 18, Intelligence 17, Willpower 17, Control 14
Description: By using their chakra to create a very brief combination of increased strength and grip in one arm the user of this technique can throw a single throwing weapon at nearly three times the normal speed. The speed alone makes avoiding this technique difficult enough but due to the speed of the weapon it is also easily able to penetrate several feet of wood or up to six inches of stone. Targets of this technique often have difficulty even seeing the weapon approaching unless they employ some type of doujutsu.
Level 6
Sandangamae Entou no Ippuku (Triple Throwing Scroll)
Requirements: Tactics 21, Intelligence 20, Willpower 19, Power 17, Control 15
Description: The last line of throwing weapon summons this technique uses three scrolls simultaneously to summon throwing weapons. Unlike the previous versions this technique does not have the user themselves throwing the weapons but instead has them standing at the middle of the three rapidly twirling scrolls holding a hand seal to release a string of attacks in either one or multiple directions. Each scroll is specialized in its purpose. One scroll throws nothing except senbon needles, the second scroll unleashes a mixture of kunai and shuriken and the third scroll unleashes every other kind of weapon that can conceivably be used as a projectile. While each scroll only summons one type of weapon the rapidly spinning nature of the scrolls makes it appear as if one never ending string of weapons is being emitted. The speed and power of the projectiles is sufficient to shred even whole trees in moments.
Chuuten Ame (Rising Rain)
Requirements Power 21, Control 20, Reserves 19, Tactics 17, Intelligence 15
Description: A two part attack, at first this technique appears to be similar to a projectile scroll technique except the only weapons used are kunai. Instead of projecting the kunai directly at an opponent, this technique launches many kunai in to the air and then has them rain down rapidly toward an opponent. While it is not difficult to avoid this technique comes with a surprise. After the kunai finish raining down, an opponent will then presumably counterattack and it is then that the true nature of this technique is revealed as a few of the kunai suddenly emerge from the ground to fly at their intended target. This technique is used over the course of two posts.
Naitomea no Kumo (Cloud of Nightmares)
Requirements: Tactics 23, Intelligence 23, Willpower 22, Control 16, Reserves 15
Description: Similar to the Cloud of Pain, this technique is a series of bombs that creates a thick cloud of smoke with a very fine mist within it. The mist is a mixture of chemicals that when inhaled, ingested or placed in contact with skin will act a sort of hallucinogenic poison. There is no way to control what the victim(s) see but the poison acts on receptors in the targets brain, causing them to see terrible visions and horrors. The brains ability to rationally explain away these events is also suppressed as well, leaving the victim in a confused world of phantoms and demons only they can see. While this does make the victim a slightly easier target, it in no way inhibits their ability to fight or mold chakra. This effect lasts for two posts but has a diminished effect based on the targets willpower by the second post.
Level 7
Bakuretsu Ame (Exploding Rain)
Requirements: Tactics 30, Intelligence 27, Willpower 26, Power 22, Control 20
Description: This technique uses a scroll to summon forth what appear to be several dozen smaller blade bombs which can be scattered over an area or all focused in one spot. The resulting string of explosions and their accompanying rain of spikes and shrapnel will leave whole areas devastated and burning in moments. This technique can also be used as a string of throwing weapons where the user throws the bombs one at a time to produce a more controlled and tactical effect.
Kurogane Bankin (Iron Sheet)
Requirements: Power 30, Control 27, Reserves 26, Tactics 22, Intelligence 20
Description: When the user first executes this technique it looks like nothing more than a slightly shimmering sheet of cloth that flies towards a target but what is not seen by the normal eye is the many hundreds of fine threads flowing out from the sheet. Targets will usually dodge the sheet only to realize moments later that the tiny threads from the sheet have stuck to their skin and clothing which immediately draws the sheet to them. The sheet will wrap completely around a target but due to its 6 by 6 foot square radius it may or may not cover them from head to toe. The sheet completely immobilizes a target and is absolutely impossible to escape from without outside assistance. While not precisely harmful in and of itself, the sheets ability to capture an opponent makes it an extremely effective technique.
Inbo Kyousha (Final Spear)
Requirements: Tactics 32, Intelligence 30, Willpower 28, Power 24, Control 22
Description: This technique calls forth a single silvery long spear with a broad head and an elegant design. The spear, if examined, will seem to pulsate with power but few ever get the chance to examine it closely. Using a considerable amount of chakra as well as no small amount of physical effort the user hurls the spear at their intended target. The spear flies with such speed and moves with such force that most barriers prove ineffective against it. Trees will split, rocks will shatter, and even solid metal must be at least four inches thick to provide adequate protection. This technique can only be used once in a thread.
Note: This tree requires Projectile Specialist Scrolls.
