Xavier wants to see what kind of skill you have with your powers, yadda, yadda, so he sets up an excercise for you in the Danger Room as an assessment.
ArekExcelsior2: Anchress is a little intimidated by her Professor's prodigious mental talents, so she simply nods and walks to the Danger Room, suiting up, her curvacious body embarassing her a bit as she tends to think of herself as androgynous...
ArekExcelsior2: She stands prepared for the Danger Room, saying, "This won't be too hard... right?", a strange combination of confidence and fear.
DragonRaider88: As you step into the Danger Room, you immediately notice the scenery changing from that of a naked metal oval to a vast city lying in ruins and flame. Buildings that once looked as though they actually touched the clouds lie in smoldering piles of rubble before you.
DragonRaider88: The sky is an orange-red, with thick black smoke clouds slightly obscuring vision about one hundred feet above you. Sounds of raging fires, screams of humans, and metallic clanks of automatons fill the air, coming at you from all sides.
ArekExcelsior2: Anchress thinks that she might be able to alter the infrared radiation being put off by the burning and thus contain the blaze, but she figures that she needs to be efficient. The first thing she does is to make a microwave resonance to create a radar bounce to see if she can find people. Only problem is that she's not sure if they're alive or not.
DragonRaider88: Alright, is the radar going to be just a general sweep, or do you have any particulars about where you want it going?
ArekExcelsior2: Towards the epicenter of the blaze or what I perceive to be, that'd be where my work could be most useful compared to the human firemen.
DragonRaider88: Right now, the fire is really the least of your problems. Now I'm speaking OOC: What this excercise is is to find and rescue as many survivors as possible, and protect them from the robos that destroyed the city.
So, once I have ascertained the location of survivors using my microwave repulsion, I will then set my repulsive power to repel infrared and heat radiation so I can ignore the heat as well as intensify my carbon shield so I can get to survivors.
