The Epochal Four: These are the set of four spells that are generally considered non-elemental damage (though Meteo most closely approximates Air, Meteor Fire, Ultima Water and Mystic Quake Earth) in sheer mystic power. (Note that there are other spells that would qualify for membership in the Epochal Four were they not the province of specialized groups: Grand Train, Dark Matter, Spirit, Luminaire, Ancient, Flare/Nuke in the hands of someone such as Lucca, and other spells are at the least matches for these attacks).

The Primeval Ten: These are the basic elemental spells that emerge at Legendary and beyond. The spells tend to surpass elemental protection but do extra damage against elementally vulnerable foes. The ten elements used here are Fire, Earth, Water, Ice, Lightning, Air, Dryad (Nature), Luna (Moon), Metal and Wood. The Innates from Chrono Cross are distinct. It is important to note that some of the Elements, such as Luna and Dryad, are more well known for non-directly-offensive spells, such as Mana Magic, Lunatic, Moon Saber and Leaf Saber.
