He already owns a Wuldrak Ortise mask, a rare find indeed. And he is in the process of finishing another [OOC: You need to design a second mask.] But other masks the universe over await discovery and collection. Fracas, Away!
Oh, and anyone else who wants to tap into the incredible power of a mask: Sure, come along.

Ok, so how does one find more masks? Cause this be a cause Fracas would look into.

One can make them, seeking out the finest wood and materials to fully evoke the relevant spirit. One can look for them in the places one would look for such artifacts. And one can scour the Spirit Realms for them.

Fracas is going to use his spirit knowledge along with his Spirit Man-Monster and Shaman classes to talk to the spirits and see what is a good place to start looking on the spirit realm.

"The plant realms..." It'd make sense: the plants are the source of the masks.

OOC: Would it be possible to make or find a Ranari mask to further channel Ranari's spirit?
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Jan 27, 2006 16:07:11 GMT -5
Yes, in fact it would. Either a mask Ranari wore or a mask that conjures Ranari's energy and spirit. Some artifacts of his have been preserved in the extended Ranari family and by the Raccoon Tribe (as well as some other friendly tribes and historians), but some have been lost, and can be found either in the Mnesis Codex, other parts of the Spirit Realms or in the physical world (likely in the Banbar Mountain).

Well then... I think I'll have her start talking to the Ranari family. Possibly even Thrash himself.

Thrash is always open to Crashing Heavens members. When Shae comes in to talk to him, he is busily planting squash-like plants. He looks up at Shae and says, "You need?"

Fracas is going to go into the plant realms, but instead of just searching for a new mask, he is also going to search for spiritually empowered materials to take to Mauler, who can probibly make a pretty mean mask for him Or he might make the mask himself using his Weapon Of Chaos Creator class skills.

Mauler's Cosmic Forge ability provides some skill, but not really the specialized skill to make masks, except for forging an enchanted face mask (not the same as shaman masks).
How will you enter the Spirit Realms? Options include spirit portals, teleportation in (limited and dangerous), hallucinogens, sweat lodges, etc.

Its gotta be the sweat lodge... Cant wait to see the sweat lodge that can make Fracas break a sweat. Might as well be the middle of the sun or something.

You'd be surprised.
Fracas figures he should turn to the best shaman he knows, Thrash Ranari. Thrash nods. "Masks, hmm? We've done much delving, but the spirits reveal gifts to many for many reasons and neglect to show gifts to others for just as many reasons. I can manage the ritual for you to enter the plant realms in the Crashing Heavens lodge, but beware: The plant realms are fairly strange compared to the realms of animals."

"Well, I am always up to seeing something new" Fracas states with a wink. "But yes, I really appreciate you doing this for me."

Thrash walks through the woods around the building, Fracas following him. He walks to a thick place, a slow rise pushing them up a small hill, then leading to quite a precipitous climb, almost vertical at some points. The trees press in around them the whole way and the underbrush is thick and slippery. Light can scarcely get through the thick canopy. Finally, the two come upon a sheltered and quiet place, with a wooden lodge in front of them. "Ready?"

Fracas cracks his knuckles. "I was born ready." He chuckles at his own phrase and how often it is used.

"Badcat had some interesting jokes from that one." The two come into the lodge. Thrash very quickly disrobes and nods for Fracas to do the same, wearing only his underwear. From the wall, he pulls a great earthen pot of pungent water and places it onto a rack. He then leans over underneath the rack and breathes. The flame underneath bursts into the hottest flame Fracas has experienced. The water practically explodes, but still takes some time to burn away. As the humidity and heat raise, Fracas finds himself actually sweating. Profusely. Thrash nods. "The incense, the lodge itself, the sweating, all are symbols of purity and power. As the impurities of this world burn away, your spirit raises. The next thing is to allow your rising spirit to go where it needs." He pulls from another wall enclosure a great long pipe and begins smoking from it, the yuro-e-siprt (a very strange, almost sappy variety), and holds the smoke in, closing his eyes. He breathes out, an incredible plume of smoke coming. He then hands the pipe to Fracas. "This yuro-e-siprt has the spirits of plants coursing through it."

Wearing only his leopard-print speedo, Fracas takes the offered pipe. Breathing deep, Fracas lets the smoke saturate him from the inside out, holding the sappy smoke deep in his lungs. Exhaling through his nose, it looks as if he were a dragon snorting in irritation.

Immediately, Fracas feels the characteristic mild high of the yuro-e-siprt, then a hallucinogenic rush. Thrash nods. "Now we must speak the language of the plants. Follow my lead. It is a verbal analog of the language of winds, soil, water, weather, roots, pollen, and rain." He begins to speak a seeming non-sense language, with no discernable grammar or syntax.

Using Mini-Cerebro to help get the meaning of the words and their pronunciation from Thrash, Fracas copies what Thrash says.

The chanting continues. As the smoke and sweat condense, Fracas rises up. Thrash gives Fracas a long blade of grass complete with seed. "Above all: Do not lose this grass."

Shae looks around nervously, then finally says without taking a breath" Well, you know, I'm a shaman, and I channel the spirit of your father, which I think you already know, but I was really wondering if you might have any idea where I can find any kind of mask he might have worn, because I'm trying to increase my ability to properly channel him. Heh. So, Mr. Ranari... do you think you might be able to tell me where any of your father's masks are, if there are any?" She gasps as she finishes her shpiel, blushing as she does.

"Not my father. My ancient ancestor. I am eighth-Venecian. All of the known artefacts of Ranari are held either in my extended family's storing places or in museums. But his Wuldrak Ortise mask is gone..." Thrash smiles. "If you could find artefacts of Autocratis, Nobellius and Xiang, you could form quite a front. Anyways: If you want to find his masks, retrace his steps. He was born in the Raccoon Tribes' traditional home, the forested area of Borona. This was before the unification, so he battled other tribes. Eventually, he found Neutral Excalibur in the grove it was given me. Then after adventuring he fought in the Councils, then in the Fount of Fate, then against the Dragon Emperor."

OOC: Oh, crap. Damn you, FRACAS!!!!
"I'm sorry. I didn't know. I'm still kinda new here. Heh heh. So, would you suggest going to Borona, then?" she continues to blush, turning a bright scarlet at her faux pas about Ranari.

Thrash smiles. "No one made you my family historian. It is an honest mistake. You did not spend a lot of time with my grandparents, though they do remember you as that pretty little girl who fouled up their house with a primitive chemical experiment. Borona may contain some hidden objects."

"It's been a little bit since I last visited the extended family, so tell them I said 'Hi.'"
Borona is a great wooded and rivery area. Exactly where the lost artifacts would be is hard to tell.

Geordi's visor and tricorder won't detect ancient masks - they're not looking for the right signatures.
