Marshall will be joining him as his backup and on his own quest to get closer to becoming a living buddha.

So far, we had thought of:
A) Purchasing a spaceship. The team is acquiring two custom-built ones courtesy of Phase World. This will allow the team to go abroad and acquire Kevin's rings.
B) Getting close to the Mandarin somehow. At the moment, the idea here was to either find the person the Mandarin is going to contact about healing his hands and spine or to have the team provide this service themselves. This in turn would allow Kevin to receive his training, his position and his rings.
C) Training under Gilgamesh, Zoro, or others to learn how to equip more items or create more arms to use.

Yeah. For C I was going to use my GL ring for the extra appendages for the amount of rings I'll use.

You couldn't just use your extra fingers?

Dude, Mandarin's ten rings, plus the GL ring I already have, plus the six other Corps rings I'm going to get. I'm going to need to GL some extra arms into existence.

Not to mention that for awhile there may be a limit of one Lantern ring to a hand until Kevin becomes better at manipulating the rings.

Cassidy wouldn't mind tagging along. He has some very useful portal abilities, including some Paige training that could prove useful for snagging items.

Apparently I had been requested via MSN by Fred to heal the mandarins arms, additionally I will throw out there that I am the teams best thief last checked so if something needs to be actually stolen (instead of say beating up and looting) then I am probably good for that too.

So how are we starting this up?
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Feb 17, 2009 0:23:12 GMT -5
Yeah. The main issue now is to get the Mandarin to agree to meet with Kevin, Mario, Fred, Marshall and Cassidy.

What is the Mandarin's personality like? If I remember correctly, he is always building another giant robot or some such. Maybe we could track down his parts suppliers and convince them to tell Mandarin about us. You know, recommend us.

This is true, get a recommendation. That having been said, Mandarin tends to do most of his stuff in house. His organization is fairly insular, having only worked with the Masters of Evil and the Hand prominently. He might sub-contract out some, but he himself is a genius intellect who reverse engineered the designs in his ring.

Maybe we could fake some information that would make us a very desirable target. He got those rings from a crashed spaceship. Maybe we could leak some info about another crashed spaceship with more rings on it, and we are the ones who have them.

I think the truth would be what he'd want to hear. We need him, and he needs us. We trade healing him for training me, then we double cross him and kick his ass. Tracking his resources would be a good way to find him I think.

Problem with that trade is that all he needs is some healing. In return you would be getting all of the power he has worked so hard to obtain. Plus, once you have trained under him, why would you want to double cross him?

Right he could find someone else to heal him. But I think he wants to double cross him to take all his resources and political power.

Three issues.
First: That kind of fake has a nasty capacity to blow up in your face. Press, government agencies, corporations... they all get involved afterwards. And the Mandarin won't be tricked by anything that isn't a top-line fake that'd be on everyone's radar.
Second: He has his rings and his technology. His priority is to get healthy and get control of his organization, not expand his power.
Third: Since he reverse engineered a lot of the tech, he can see if what you're saying is BS or not.
Except that giving up his skills is probably something he doesn't want to do. He'd rather pay money or blackmail or leverage than lose monopoly over his powers.
The plan was for Mario to get close and "heal" him but in fact put him in a coma and bring a Sinning Tree seed.

I am fine with the coma plan and will go ahead with the plan when I have the go ahead. Does anyone have a problem with that plan?

I like the coma plan. Involves less messy stuff. How can I help?

Coma plan... sounds like fun. My suggestion would have been a deal. We heal him and keep him out of prison. In return he trains Kevin. If he doesn;t agree, we don't heal him and instead take him down and capture him.

We still would need to double cross him at the end. L was very specific that he didn't want Mandarin roaming free after everything he's done.

That's what the coma / Sinning Tree is for: Incapacitate him without pain until we can get him into a prison that'll hold him. Our specially designed cells borrow from M'uru's, Mayuri's, Szayel's, Kurama's, Whistler's, Panda's, Arexa's, Gramercy Island's, and a host of others' technologies to keep superbeings trapped and unable to harm others or themselves.
Cassidy is a good enough Jumper that if we prepare from the other side he might be able to get past whatever guards and mercenaries he has and help neutralize them, as well as being our extraction team.

Ok, so when do I get training?
|
|
|
Post by Frederic Bourgault-Christie on Feb 17, 2009 20:10:28 GMT -5
That's a stickier part of the discussion.
A) We can prompt the Sinning Tree to adjust its reality so that eventually the Mandarin believes he either has or should take on a student. You would then be temporarily seeded to the tree, play out the role of the student, and leave.
B) We could still make the healing contingent on the training. The problem, as mentioned, is Mandarin's arrogance and caution. Further, he could only teach you how to use the rings when he had his limbs back, but the healing would have to introduce the knock-out at that time. Mario could try to put a time-release on the healing so that the Mandarin would only be knocked out after training you, but again he'd have to agree to do so.
C) Mario could observe him on a display of the Sinning Tree or when he is healing him or both.

I like A or C the best I am not sure I can properly relay what I see though. My teaching skill is at 100 percent though maybe if I had a way to transmit what I see in my sharingan directly to him. Even then he has no experience at learning that kind of way.
I am of the opinion that A is the best solution.

Yeah, A seems the simple way to go. And simple usually works.

Arexa's Psychohistorian abilities let her mentally coordinate, but that's a LOT of info to send to one person from the other. We'll go for A, B and C, but if he turns down B we won't press it. Kevin approve?

I like A a lot, like was said, it's simple, and I like simple things because there's less places for things to go wrong. So yes, I approve.
