One side is above the other, about six feet with a 60 degree grade, but it is covered in brambles. There is no path of note, however.

Fert continues along the bank and searches for anything edible.

So the non-brambles side?

As Fert advances forward, the smashing sound becomes louder and emanates from an individual tree in sight.

Fert stops and stares at it, searching for any signs of movement. He'll tosses a twig at it.

The movement seems to be a consistent back-and-forth pattern through the brush. The twig seems to have no effect on the pattern. Mace now hears guttural groans.

"Hello, what's up!?" The tall graei calls out rather enthusiastically, trying to give off an aura of helpfulness, though really he's just trying to make whatever's making the noises think he's non-violent incase it decides to tear his bladder out through his ear.

As he gets closer, he sees the vaguest outline through the thick brush. A form moving back and forth, with hair like spiny bone and a horribly uneven body. It must be four legged, and massive, like a warthog or boar.

Fert kneels close to the ground, picks up a rock, and chucks it at the creature. He considers the thought that he may have just done something really stupid, but then again, he didn't much care.

The rock strikes the creature with a powerful "Thud"... as if the rock had been thrown against another rock, or a large and sturdy tree. The creature barely seems to notice, but the rock does stop its singleminded obsession with the tree, and now it is looking around...

The tall graei tries to slide out of sight by slipping behind a tree, licking his lips, wondering if he can get any meat out of the thing. He waits to listen in on what it'll do.

The charge begins when Fert has barely begun to conjure the energy! The very forest floor seems to rumble and tear from the massive form charging at him. Its head is kept low, clearly trying to sweep Fert out. He can barely respond.

Fert will only angle his arm down to rest on the head when it comes at him. He'll use the opposing force by counter-balancing his weight overhead, and catapult himself over the beast.

Fert extends his hand forward... at the improper time. The creature's low build, lowered head, the high degree of brush, panic, and other variables causes his timing to be drastically improper. He feels his arm shatter, getting hurled up into the air, flipping to the side. [FN: 90 v. 168, 291 v. 108].

The new sea turtle druid and Hey explored the coral reefs and came back with a treasure chest! It has some coinage as well as some valuable preserved fish components. The two seemed to have a very much more positive outlook when they returned...
Meanwhile, the ship's doctor and aquamancer encountered three soldiers and a Beast Dog. Knowing the insignia of the Duke of Tower, they attacked, quickly assassinating the three. The Beast Dog then broke its chain and charged at them, but with the combined work of the doctor, aquamancer, Hey and the sea turtle, the creature was pacified and put to sleep (not figuratively, literally; it was force fed about a few glassfuls of something very akin to nitrous oxide). The dog was then fed and treated with respect. At the end of the day, the team got money, supplies, a few weapons, a dog ally, and a tent that smells horrible.
Now onto town!

So, town was gotten to. A lot. First, the doctor, aquamancer and Crush the sea turtle encountered a hunter in the woods. He identified the boar-like creatures that have been harassing the team as "boarkin". This particular hunter, Reyes Sandoval, uses traps and sophisticated tools to successfully kill the boarkin. Reyes offered the travelers a way home in exchange for defense from the Duke of Tower's patrols or other threats in the forest. Luckily, the trip back to town was uneventful.
Crush went to collect herbs. The doctor brooked goodwill by helping people in the town with various low-level ailments, sprains and the like. Hey went to talk to Ornakius, the town's ship builder, about repairing the boat. The aquamancer helped out around Reyes' house with his better half.
Unfortunately, Crush was ambushed. A man with a staff and his five-man thugarmy "gently hinted" that Crush and his kind should leave town. It seemed to be sheer bigotry, but this became quite unlikely when the man with the staff was routing the turtle-man on his own, leaping fifteen feet from a standing position and exerting superhuman strength. Luckily, the sounds of fighting, and a timely run by Fluffy to get reinforcements, allowed Crush to not die. Reyes, the aquamancer, and Hey showed up to fight, Reyes showing prowess with a boomerang by catching the man in the head and giving him a cut! The staff-user managed to escape them, under cover of automatic weapon fire.
The captured thugs revealed the problem, fortuitously the same problem Hey was told about by Ornakius: The local crime syndicate, the Green Sun. These Cosa Nostra-esque gangsters have(d) more than a hundred members in a moderate sized port town! They have five powerful mercenaries and the top leadership.
Problems escalated, as the money that was miraculously found by Hey and Crush led the doctor to a bad situation. He met a jester from the Duke of Fool, who was on a fact-finding mission (odd to send a jester, but it's probably a large joke on the fool). Green Sun men again hinted that the doctor and his friends leave town (since they had not warned the doctor). The doctor agreed, much to the Fool's approval. During this time, Crush was seen buying an anchor, while Hey and the aquamancer were seen almost buying out a gun store.
A plan was concocted. Neither the doctor nor anyone else had the slightest intention of leaving town. Instead, what was to occur was a trap. The group would obviously and ostentatiously relocate to a barn near the hunter's house, waiting for the mobsters to arrive to "escort" the group out. (This was to prevent Reyes' homestead or his wife from coming to harm). Traps would be set up around the entire location, picking off many. Firing through the barn, they would appear to make a last stand... but would then hurl themselves by a sling-shot like apparatus into the woods! The primary intent was to get the heavily armed men to accidentally engage a patrol of the Tower Duchy, pitting the two groups against each other.
The plan worked like a charm. One of the hired mercenaries, an orcish shaman, nearly cut the catapult system, but he critically failed to do so. A grenade hurled into the air got the attention of the Tower patrols. The man with the staff, the other hired mercenary, got killed by being shot in the testicles. Then the head. By killing one group, then the other, a total domination was insured. The following equipment was looted:
3 distance rifles 3 demolitions packs 3 spears 1 hookblade 20 guns 20 assorted melee weapons 20 remaining firesticks Assorted gold and trade items: 800 gold equivalent 2 rage potions 2 healing potions 3 mana potions 1 res potion! The shaman's equipment - don't recommend pilfering it Around 10 suits worth of intact armor and rapid deployment backpacks Around 10 sets of swords, shields, sidearms and assault rifles Iron core staff plus the stuff from the "monk": 500 gold, various travelling items, high quality light chainmail The "monk's" corpse 15 other corpses
This is in addition to the items purchased in town. What to do with the items (sell or keep) is going to be a point of contention for the team. (Note that the hook sword has been given to Hey and the
After this crushing, the captured orc shaman (who had been rendered unconscious in the battle) was barely successfully wrestled by Hey. This allowed the group to purchase his services. Next, the group again split into two (with the doctor AWOL [read: not there]). The aquamancer and Reyes talked to Ornakius. Now that the Green Dawn had been weakened and some of their assets given back to the town, Ornakius could afford to repair and upgrade the ship as well as build a pier to make the cove into a temporary base. This would cost 1500 total. Adding in the 410 to hire the orc, this comes up to 1910 out of the group's communal 2300. (That is ONLY gold: The trade items and stolen lucre is not calculated into that).
Meanwhile, the orc, Hey and Crush explored the woods. Odd that they're not back yet...
[And that was one of the hugest updates I've ever written.]

Swaggard, Dengar and a certain O'Connor stumbled off the ship, as the former two were being babysitted by the latter. Traveling with the water mage, Hey and the "Captain", the group found a hidden cavern!
