Angraka grins. Nods once. Then walks the other direction.
Sohma succesfully makes it back to his home without any other problems but is pretty wiped out when he does. Though he ran away the physical prowess required to do this definitely took its toll.
Though an even trade for his life today Sohma is not so sure it will work so smoothly in the future....

Hopefully it's training with Master Yodsuwan so my face isn't turned inside out when I have to fight Argraka again.

[Episode 24 - A Different kind of Strength]
Sohma sits in front of his master who frowns pensively upon hearing the tale of the fearsome Angraka. Though the details are as few or many as Sohma chooses one thing is communicated with unmistakable clarity. Someone is out for Sohma's life and will take it lest Sohma becomes as strong as he is...
"He sounds like quite the individual" Master Yodsuwan says. "Though it was bound to happen sooner or later, encountering one who uses Muay Thai for blood sport purposes, I had not thought it would happen while you were in high school". He ponders for a long moment. His unmoving eyes seeming to stare straight through Sohma and the surroundings seeking something almost on a higher level. Sohma has not seen his master like this since the day he had adopted him and his bother.
"I would like to ask" he says after a few moments "it is clear you intend to fight this young man but I feel I must ask : do you strive to defeat him? or do you wish to simply survive him?"

"To be honest Sensei I want to defeat him, but I'd settle for surviving."

"I see. Then we'd best get to work" he says, frown lessening but not going away completely. "First of all watch my movements carefully and copy them as well as you can".
Sohma watches as Master Yodsuwan gets to his feet and distances himself several feet from Sohma. He then begins stepping back and forth as well as to the left and right always kneeling slightly upon completion of a step and back again while holding his arms aloft. His hands curled and wiping as if he were waving imaginary scarves.
"This is the Wai Khru Ram Muay, a sort of pre-fight dance that can serve many purposes. From paying respect to ones teacher to disrespecting ones opponent. Whatever the purpose no decent Muay Thai practitioner enters a match without preforming this rite understand?"
Master Yodsuwan now changes the posture of his arms to an open V-shape and places them straight out in front of him. Softly they waver as Sohma's master kneels down to rest on his right knee.
"This is the one that I inherited from my master"

The rite is watched and passed as thoroughly as can be for it's initial unveiling. After Sohma seems to have it down Master Yodsuwan nods and takes a position next to Sohma and takes a stance he has never seen before.
"Now follow me. This will be a short introduction to some of the more ancient forms I know. From now on we will start with this before the usual workouts" he says beginning to move again. This time his limbs swinging out swiftly and coming down into pointed and harsh strikes.

Sohma is going to try and follow Master Yodsuwan about three seconds behind him.

Sohma follows as well as he is able. The deep steps, the proud stomps, knees to elbows, elbows to punches, punches to kicks. Though he is obviously not as adept as his master at this form there is a certain compatibility it has that plays upon Sohma's intuition and feel for Muay Thai he has collected up to this point. He finds the movements stay in his memory quite easily for practice later.
"Very good" Master Yodsuwan says moving towards the usual equipment. "Now comes time for our regular training".
For the next long span of time Sohma and Master Yodsuwan train in the more common sense. Pad kicking/hitting, pacing and footwork, sit-ups, push ups. All of that. Then towards the end, at what would usually be the ending point of the session Master Yodsuwan moves to the back and takes out some pads Sohma has never seen before. A bunch of circular pads with straps on them as if one would wear them.
Or so it would seem as Sohma watches Master Yodsuwan put them on.

"Impact pads. They should severely lessen the impact of any blows thrown while they're on. It's what Masters use to spar with students who are just beginning and have no suitable sparring partners" Master Yodsuwan explains.
"Starting today each training session will end with sparring. With this and the practice of the forms in addition to your conditioning everything should be alright come your next face off with this young man Angraka".
Sohma's master then puts his arms up and his left foot forward. Standard Muay Thai stance. However there is an extra weight to it being his master. A collection of unconscious cues hint at exactly what Sohma is in for now.

Sohma bows to Master Yodsuwan and takes his stance. Knowing that if he attacked outright he'd be shut down easily Sohma waits to react instead.

Master Yodsuwan picks up on this and initiates by darting into mid-range and throwing a right low kick aimed at Sohma's left shin. Despite the pads it still feels like Sohma is hit by a sack of bricks and he is easily knocked off his feet with little to no time to react!
"Waiting for your opponent is a luxury other martial arts may afford but not necessarily ours. Explode!" Master Yodsuwan instructs.

Sohma rolls back and hops up initiating a flying knee. He sees his master tighten up and decides to block the hit. As Sohma crashes into his masters guard (which feels something like a solid wall of steel bed springs beneath malleable concrete) he does not see but feels his hands race up his body and secure themselves around Sohma's back.
"The clinch. Here can be the harshest moments of a fight considering the close range makes it hard to defend" Master Yodsuwan explains while thrusting his right knee into Sohma's ribs. The feeling is odd because though the cushioning in front of the blow makes it much more tolerable there is still the strange lingering sensation as if Sohma were hit with a cinder block several days ago without the initial excruciating introduction. "But if you keep your wits about you it can be dealt with. Attack me."

Sohma is going to back up and then close the distance and try for an elbow.

Sohma attempts to disengage but cannot, his masters grip refusing to give as he hugs Sohma closer to him still.
"No one gives up a clinch position that easily. Trade from here if you want to earn your way out" Master Yodsuwan explains while again lifting his knee(this time his left) and ramming it into Sohma's lower ribs as of yet unprotected. It would seem elbows won't work in this type of situation and that only the closest of close range tactics will work here.

Sohma is going to try and hit Master Yodsuwan with a knee.

Sohma fires off a knee only to have his master raise his same-side knee and scrunch his elbow down so as to guard against the blow.
"Every movement in the clinch must be the height of efficiency. Even if you cannot damage your opponent if you can defend well enough to make the clinch less valuable than striking you can encourage an early break" Master Yodsuwan elaborates. "Try to block as I did"
With these words Master Yodsuwan raises his knee up and prepares to crash it into Sohma's right side this time.

Sohma finds that while he is not quite flexible enough to make this scrunch-in guarding technique childs play he is able to significantly lessen the impact of the attack. He and his master continue like this for an indeterminable amount of time as Master Yodsuwan throws knees and short hooks and Sohma continues perfecting the defensive measures he has been recently taught. At one point Master Yodsuwan parts with Sohma eliminating the clinch.
"Good. Now we brush up on mid range defense" Master Yodsuwan says shooting his foot out pad first at Sohma's chest.

OOG: It's an elbow coming at you, not a kick. If that changes your action I'll change my post.
IG: Sohma leaps in narrowly avoiding the attack and counter-attacks with a snap kick of his own! Master Yodsuwan knocks the foot aside with his right hand and throws a counter punch with his left hand aimed for Sohma's chest. Sohma has only the barest chance to react...

OOG: Sorry, I mistyped, doesn't change my action.
IG: Sohma is going to do a push kick but instead of trying to throw back Master Yodsuwan it is to give himself distance since he is in the air and Master Yodsuwan is rooted. (Well I'm assuming he's got a strong stance anyway.)

Though Sohma is in close his more limber nature benefits him as he pushes away from Master Yodsuwan and narrowly avoids the punch! It is now that Sohma has a chance to attack back.
