"Pick it up you guys, you think it will be any easier in an actual ring with a thousand people looking down on you?" Rikimaru says in his normally soft yet serious voice.

"He's right you know. I expect you to have picked it up by two notches when I turn back to you both" the leader of the boxing club barks. After doing so he turns towards Rikkimaru.
"You said you wanted to be part of the outside boxing team a while back. You still think you have what it takes?" he asks. Despite this being how the guy normally talks Rikkimaru can feel a difference in his tone. A subtle change of atmosphere if you will.

"Good. Get up there!" he says motioning to one of the two boxing rings. As he says this Rikkimaru notices that everyone else stops what they are doing and moves towards the lockers on the side.
"Nihongo! help him with his wraps and gloves. I'll be up in a bit"
From off to the side Nihongo Goutei, a steady second year approaches Rikkimaru, his own gym bag in tow. He follows Rikkimaru to the bench by the side of the designated ring and sits down to do as he was instructed.

Rikimaru will sit down and put on his wraps and gloves. "Any advice on how to take him?" he will ask Nihongo if he thinks it will be of any assistance.

"Uuum...pace yourself? Not to scare you or anything but I have no idea" he says. "From what I could tell of the last time I saw him fight he's pretty sound just about everywhere. I'd especially watch for his straights since they pack a lot of, well, punch".
Before long everyone in the club (roughly eight people) have gathered around the ring. Kiki, the second oldest there, is helping the club leader with his own wraps and gloves. In a flurry of whispers and nerves Rikkimaru suddenly finds himself up in the ring with Kazu Yomiske : Senior and Boxing Club leader. Broad and powerful shoulders lead out into thick muscular arms that make the legends about his alleged duties as leader easy to believe. Though not nearly as muscular his legs are definitely well toned. Peering over to faded red boxing gloves obviously worn from use are Yomiske's cold eyes now fixed into a piercing gaze.
In an instant the bell rings. In but another he is on Rikkimaru throwing a massive straight right! Rikkimaru with the barest time to react.

Rikimaru keeps his left foot outside his opponents right and weaves to his left, opening up the angle for his right which he will capitalize on with a right counter hook if hes still "outside" or a right counter uppercut if there "inside". Rikimaru will back off if kazu checks the hook.

Coming up on the outside Rikkimaru is able to feel the wind from Kazu's punch ruffle what little hair hangs out of his headgear! Avoiding the punch Rikkimaru attempts to deliver a right uppercut but finds his target is no longer in place. Kazu leans back out of the way of the initial blow taking advantage of its short range and then comes back in with a left hook!
Fist like a blur Rikkimaru is only completely aware of what happened while his head is rocking to the side. As he reels he sees a right uppercut headed his way and has a chance to deal with that.

Bend back out of the way with my baguazhang training then strike back with an overhand to get around his left faceguard.

The bending backwards allows Rikkimaru to avoid the uppercut turning its short range against it! However this victory is short.
Rikkimaru comes in with an overhand only to be bopped in the nose by a right jab! Though it does not do much damage it forces the slightest pause. This pause giving way to an immediate follow up straight left! Rikkimaru sees stars as he feels his butt hit the floor.
Despite his fall Rikkimaru hears through his ringing ears not a count but a single gruff word. "Up!"

Rikimaru strikes the ground slightly as he pushes himself up, more to psyche himself up than any sort of anger or bitterness. He leads in with his left attempting to possibly set him off guard like he has seen no name do before and follow up with a c-rank cursebreaker.

Kazu swats down the left but does not see the right. He raises an eyebrow in surprise and an arm to soak the blow, taking it on the left arm while leaning himself out of the way.
"Trying stuff you don't know yet. Gutsy" Kazu grunts as he slips to the small gap on the inside of Rikkimaru's left. He throws a hook with his right that Rikkimaru again has slight reaction against.

Rikimaru will check his hook with one of his own aimed at the offending arm, a standard if unused till this point use of a counter punch. "We both know I can't beat you with what I know so i'm gonna improvise a little."

Checking the punch with a right hook of his own is a good start to stopping the attack. Unfortunately it proves to not be the entire equation. Though his countermeasures begin to stop the punch Rikkimaru finds that the size and length of his opponents arm makes it impossible to judge perfectly in so small a window.
In combination with the above Kazu relies on his great strength to power through a half-erected check. The odd part of all this is that it does not mean complete failure for Rikkimaru!
Having to power through in the middle throws Kazu's trajectory off enough that the punch whizzes by Rikkimaru leaving him surprisingly untouched and with action!

Rikimaru closes in to attempt to destroy his opponents length advantage. He throws an uppercut with the left attempting to follow with a heymaker to his right button.

In a blur of motion Kazu's left hand comes down with tremendous force to parry the uppercut and then up and forward into the straight left. This is done with enough force to stun Rikkimaru long enough for him to catch a straight right in the face! Again his world spins and he feels himself nearly fall over.
"That's good but not good enough. Go farther. Go faster."

Rikimaru will rush forward at him making it seem like hes going for the strait punch when he instead breaks at the moment of the counter and spins using a modified version of his sword move, to spin out of the way of his counter (under if its a hook or to the side of if its anything else) and attempt to nail a strait hit to him.

Rikkimaru gets up and attempts his freshly crafted tactic. The space between the beginning of Kazu's punch and its end result vanishes almost in an instant, Rikkimaru barely initiating his dodge before it hits. The counter attack is a straight punch with his right hoping to hit opposite of Rikkimaru's blow before he could get to him.
With a deft spinning motion he puts himself in position and fires a hard straight punch. Kazu adapts to this by pivoting back out of the way and manages to only take a graze ("Not bad") before flashing to the inside and swinging out at his side with a hook to the side opposite of Rikkimaru's attack.

Having barely any time to spare Rikkimaru throws counter punch in attempt to stun his opponent out of the attack. His fist reaches his opponents face just a second before his opponents fist hits Rikkimaru's side. However the effect is unnoticeable save for a slight decrease in damage upon the moment of impact.
"Don't think I haven't thought of that" Kazu shouts as he begins to pepper Rikkimaru's chest, shoulders and head with snapping right jabs.

"Just going to wait me out?" Kazu says continuing to keep the pressure on with his jabs. "That's not going to work unless your opponent stops liking his advantage".
It is somewhat ironic that in saying this Kazu leaves a slight space between jab volleys in which Rikkimaru may strike.

Rikkimaru launches into an attack eager to capitalize on this sparse opening that has been given! Unfortunately it does not go quite as planned. As Rikkimaru attacks Kazu slips to the side of the punch, squares himself with Rikkimaru and lets into him. First with a straight right to daze and then a body shot to his exposed side before Rikkimaru can properly guard himself. The blow is heavy sending waves of intense pain across his torso.
There is a split second where Rikkimaru has a chance to move himself out of the way of an incoming uppercut. (I'm going to need a number with this one too)

Bending back with all his might Rikkimaru is able to avoid all but the barest of grazes as Kazu's fist goes speeding by his chin! This allows Rikkimaru a little more reaction to the already planned and still on its way hook aimed squarely at the side of his head.

Rikkimaru pushes forward enough to avoid the swooping hook. With his newly established position he prepares for an uppercut! This time he actually feels his blow tag Kazu up the chest as he steps back with his left foot, slanting his body so he may move himself mostly out of the way.
As quickly as he leaves Kazu comes back to his former close position closing in with a jab and getting off a hook to Rikkimaru's side that causes him to painfully bend in on his side. Kazu is right in the middle of rearing back for a fearsome haymaker when both of you hear the ringing of a single bell.
"Alright" Kazu says turning around and walking towards the far left corner "that's the end of the first round. Take a break".

"Don't worry man" a voice says from behind Rikkimaru. He turns to see Nihongo climbing in with water bottle, rag, and honest concern "I've got you". As he dabs away the thick layer of sweat that coats Rikkimaru he inspects for cuts and the like.
"So far so good" he murmurs. "One down, three to go. You should be alright so long as you don't let her suck you in with her taunts. I don't peg you for a head hunter but I know how desperation sets in when you're just missing and waiting. Aside from that I can't really say too much" Nihongo advises. "Also here's some water".
